We were in the area for mountain biking but wanted to do something else. Something cooler in the heat of the day. We found RimRock and gave them a call. We did the 1pm departure of Blue Heron Run. We were hoping for a white water rafting trip but in Fruita they don't have that as a option. You have to drive some distance and only on certain days. Based on our schedule and not wanting to drive far this was our option. Two boats went out at this time. We had Dave as our guide. It was our group and two high school students. The other boat was another large group. The trip is a float more than anything. Water gun fights happen between the two boats. A good way to cool down as it was really warm. The water was way too cold for any of us to get in. We went at the end of June and thought we would be able to get in the water. All that snow melt is cold. Dave gave us some history of the area and did a great job spotting two eagles in the trees along the route. The float was about the right time. We were all ready to get out when we did. Be sure to bring sunscreen. That sun is bright. A good way to spend an afternoon. Professional team. Easy to book, easy to pay and easy to participate. I do wish the water gun fights didn't happen the entire trip. It would have been nice to just be still and listen to the nature. That is not the company's fault. More the other family in the other boat that thought it was too fun. They provide bottle water. If you want to bring a small cooler there is room on these boats. I would also not bring anything on the boat you do not want to get wet. As everything gets wet on the boat. No place to store things unless you have it in a dry bag.
We were eaten alive on the river. We couldn't stop for lunch for the bugs and they followed us down the river. Take bug spray.Lots of fun, good raft, shuttle service nice.
We were very happy to find Rimrock Adventures, who accommodated us same day for a 1.5 hour Colorado River float. We had 4 kids (ages 11 and under) and 4 adults (2 with handi-capable considerations) and this trip was perfect. Phil, our guide was so great, kids and adults got to swim and float and everyone enjoyed themselves. Longer floats provide more scenic views as I understand it, but this was perfect for our guys and couldn't be happier at how great they were with our adults who needed a little extra help. Thanks Rimrock Adventures!!
We took the "saddles and paddles" package with Rimrock. The trail ride was very nice. Good, bomb proof horses, (I don't ride) and the scenery was amazing; just on the edge of the Colorado National Monument. The river tour by raft was OK. We keep getting swarmed by deer flies. The guide, who liked to talk and was an expert on everything, indicated "it's never like this". I wonder. Some bug spray might have been helpful.
We took the one hour trail ride. Myself and 10 year old daughter joined by a couple in their 20's (neither had been on a horse before). The guide was very friendly and the horses very mild mannered. Rimrock Adventures is located directly across from public lands which are part of the Colorado National Monument so we mounted the horses and crossed one road and we took a gentle hour long trail ride. It is an easy way to get out on horseback in the Colorado National Monument area. Fun and enjoyable experience. The price was fine, we paid $60 for the 2 of us and then gave our guide a tip in addition. I had asked about the ride in the Book Cliffs wild horse preserve but you need a minimum of 4 to take that trip. The price point for the wild horse preserve ride is much higher because they have to transport the horses to the offsite location. Rimrock also offers rafting adventures. If you are looking for more dramtic views and you have the time you may want to try one of the longer rides offered into the canyons.
