oak flat trail

I think this trail offers the best way to see the canyon and the river below. It's only two miles, but it still took us two hours! I was advised to hike the trail counter clockwise and was glad I did. Each view point was better than the next and much of the trail was shaded by twisted gambel oaks and desert shrubs. Loved it!

We were at the Black Canyon only for part of an afternoon. We are a family of 5 with kids ages 7, 9 and 16. We did the Oak Flat trail and liked it (it was hot and long, but our kids made it). It was not super difficult and provided some movement/exercise and extra views - however nothing as good as the lookouts along the road. Still, we were glad to do it.
