We spent a relaxing two days at the campground just enjoing the plentiful shade in the 90 degree heat. The facilities include nice restrooms and showers. There are no electric or water hookups for RVs, but water faucets were plentiful. We had online reservations but on the Sunday night and Monday we were there in late August there were less than 10 campers in the 30 site campground. The camp hosts and Park Rangers were friendly and helpful. Directions (signs) are easy to follow from the I70 off ramp. A great place to spend the night or a few days even without a boat to enjoy the lake
Very good for boating, swimming, camping, fishing, tubing, grilling and chilling. It's a lil oasis on the western slope. Nice camping area, open grassy area for picnics. Bike trail around the lake also. Nice family retreat to beat the hot summer sun and cool off.
Very nice shady grassy picnic area by the swim beach. Great for playing frisbee and enjoying the shade. Swim beach is very rocky though (not sandy!) and the water is very cloudy.
Just North of Loma, Colorado, Highline State Park is basic, but had everything a camper would want.. swimming, fishing, campground with showers, boating, two lakes, and one of the best Park Rangers in the system. You can go for a day to just hang out.. or camp for a day or two and do some fishing or boating. If you fish.. there are 3 excellent places.. but worms don't work... so get some powerbait or bring some alternatives. Catfish by the first inlet where the water comes in.. or under the loan tree at Mack Mesa Lake.. or bass fishing in the Northern "no wake" zone. There is a superb ranger here.. named Justin. Ask him where to go. He's more than helpful and if every park had a ranger like him.. well.. goodness. While it's like all the other parks, Highline has a better atmosphere, better fishing, and an overall, really relaxed environment. There are others in the area.. but none as good as Highline, esp. if Justin is working.
Nice state park camp ground, picnic area, boat ramp, swimming area, playground, and visitor center. Kids love the swimming and playground. Plenty of picnic tables in the shaded grassy area or boat on over to the other side to experience the desert. Campground has showers available. 7 Miles to Loma country store and I-70.
Probably the cleanest and camper-friendly campsite ever! The camp ground was beautiful, lots of big trees and grass. The restrooms had showers for $1 for 4 minutes. Had laundry room. Nice and quiet. All for a great price. We did have to pay for the lake entrance fee, too, which we didn't do the lake but that is part of the deal. Found a great Mexican restaurant in Fruita. Will plan to visit there again.
We have been here a number of time for the 18 hours of Fruita mountain bike race. All the racers camp for two nights. The camp area is always clear and well maintained. Their facilities has heated pay showers so play hand on the trails, hit the showers and stay the night. Fruita is close enough to make a run in for dinner one night.Bottom line, great camping and better trails...
