My wife and I stopped in for a glass of wine on a Thursday evening and had a wonderful time getting to know the owner, Jay. The wines we tasted were outstanding and we enjoyed them with salami, tapenade, and bread crackers. The wine production is local and they are reasonably priced. We really enjoy finding smaller high quality food and beverage businesses that reflect the local culture and this met these criteria. It is definitely worth visiting and will add to experiencing Lyons.
I was in town for another event when I found the winery store on main street. The owner was very welcoming and I was offered wine tasting free of charge. They also sell wine by the glass with which you can purchase various cheese and crackers to enjoy. The owner was also very amiable to have me sit there for a while. There was music and a relaxing environment. Highly recommend to those who are in town. Stop by.
Thank you for your interest in Ciatano Winery. As you said, the resort on Rt 36 was destroyed by the floods of September. However, we are now re-opened on Main Street in Lyons and hope to see you there. Thanks again. ....Jay
Stopped at the winery because the "OPEN" flag was still out, but their website was still listing a closing time of 5 p.m., even in the middle of summer on a Saturday. I'm glad they were open later, but their website should be updated to reflect this. The wines were decent and it is a pretty location, but the son of the new owners served us, and he didn't really know anything. I just got the impression that they haven't decided what they want to do with the winery (they purchased it in early 2013).
I'm a local, and have been to Ciatano's a couple of times, usually not in the summer when it's crowded with tourists on their way to/from Estes Park. It's especially beautiful in the fall, when the leaves are changing. Very relaxing and peaceful at the right time.So why only a 3 rating? Well, it's an average - the setting is a 5, no doubt. Unfortunately, the wines are only a 1 or 2, depending on which one you try. Having said that, I haven't had their wine for a couple of years now, so will give it another try in a couple of months and update this review with the results.
Its easy to drive right by this place once you leave Lyons, but do stop! The grapes come from the Western Slope, but are currently pressed in Ft. Collins then aged here by the banks of the St. Vrain River. Bonus is they smoke their own trout, also, so order a plate with your wine flight, sit by the pond and relax.
This site has a beautiful wine room with some great red wines. You get 5 wines for $5, and the location is about 1/2 hour from Estes Park. The whole location is beautiful which includes a fish pond, and fishing is allowed for $35. Even if you do not want to fish you can buy fish food from the winery and feed the fish in the pond. What a blast for the kids; our granddaughter went wild feeding the fish. You can purchase food from the grill, or cheese, crackers, sausage or jerky from the winery and relax while you sip wine and have lunch on the beautiful patio or near the fish pond. A spa and lodging are also available at this location, though we have not used these services they sound wonderful. So much is offered here you have to check out their website.
This Valentine's weekend my husband and I stopped at Ciatano's Winery for a wine sampling and purchase. This is not the first time we have been here. I think the wine is excellent, so we continue to visit whenever we are in the area, usually when we are heading to Estes Park. The wine is made from grapes that come from Palisade, CO, but I have to say it is better than any of the other wines I have tried in Palisade (and we go there every year). The grounds are beautiful, especially in the spring/summer. They have cabins for rent on site, although I have never stayed the night. What really makes the visit enjoyable for me is the great wine and the very friendly staff person that assists with the samples. The Barbera and Cab Franc are my favorites, although I don't think I have ever tried a bad one here. We will definitely be back again.
The grounds are pretty, there is a pond with fish and a resident cat. You can stop there with the kids, taste some good wine, buy some for later too. They had a few small things you could eat if you are hungry after trying some wine. they have a small reasonable fee for the tasting. Great spot for pictures too. I have and will buy their wine again.
