We have visited this winery several times. We always walk away knowing so much more about wines then we did when we walked in. The owner does a great job of explaining why he does what he does to make some Great Wines! We have been there for 2 Special Events lately. The "Wine into Winter" this month, and the "Barrel Tasting" Last Year.
Lots of wines to taste, however most were on the dry sideThey did offer some interesting German wines.
The woman was very friendly and quick to help us taste however I didn't see anything on the list that I hadn't seen at three other places. My friend did buy a Syrah she liked and we were allowed to take some pictures among the barrels. We would probably check back next time to see what they might have.
Bennett Price and his wife own this winery and do an awesome job representing themselves in the 'Libation District' of Palisade. Bennett is personally responsible for planting many of the original vineyards in this area. Palisade wine visits are not complete without a visit to this facility!
Bennett Price produces some of the best wines in Colorado. Visit his winery when in Western Colorado.
My wife and I had the pleasure of happening upon this little gem in Palisade. Upon walking in we we're greeted and felt very welcomed. There was a group sampling wines before us, but we kept busy by looking around all the fun art that was displayed. When our turn came, the hostess was very welcoming. She laid out a menu and proceeded to explain their wines. We started sampling, and we were very impressed. I personally like drier wines, which this winery has more of, but even my wife who likes more sweeter was very open to their products. We talked about wine, our hometown, and their processes of making their wine. The owner has been around Palisade for sometime, and has even helped plant a few of the vineyards in the area. Everyone was very friendly, and we can't wait to come back.
They all love wine and it shows. In the wine, how they talk about it, the land, the grapes. Tasting room right in wine room. Good wine, nice patio to relax, middle of Palisade.
The wine was tasty, and the young man who served us knew a lot about it.Our only negative was that it was not easy to find...and it should have been.
Located next to Peach Street Distillery, so while my husband enjoyed sampling there, I went next door to DeBeque. Lovely woman helped me with desert wines. We shared an interest in crafts and had a lovely conversation with lovely wine.
We were surprised to see the tasting room in the warehouse, but what better to place to sample the wine than where it is made. The staff was very friendly and stories flowed as much as the wine. A nice tasting with some nicely aged oak intense wines.
I had an amazing time touring Palisade. This winery was unfortunately my least favorite. We had a coupon from our B&B that stated they were open until 6, but when we arrived at 5:15 (with a flag saying open at the front door), we were told they closed at 5 from a lady in the back. My friend and I quickly apologized and said we only came late since it was on the coupon, but we would be happy to come back tomorrow. The lady said "Nope its fine" and proceded to ask us what we wanted to try. We went through 5 wines faster than at any other winery, and instead of talking about the wines, the minute we put our glass done she would ask "what next?". We felt rushed, and really did not get the same amazing service that is found at all the other wineries we tried in town. Next time I tour Palisade (which I am hoping is soon) I might just skip this stop.
Sadly we went to this winery for Spring into Barrel May 2012. Each sample of wine I tasted was poor. I hate to say that I didn't even find one wine that I wanted to finish my sample of. The food they offered was also poorly chosen for such a nice, elegant event. We left this winery without any one of our group liking it and opted for a drink next door at the distillery.
Loved the 2011 Riesling and some others were quite good as well. It's a must stop for the Colorado Wine Country and open on Sundays too!
The building is huge but the tasting area is very small and not at all inspiring. They do offer for sale cheese and crackers and they do have an outdoor seating area though again this is not very inspiring. It is in the center of town and accessible for bike riders. I did buy a 'white' malbec that was very tasty. If you are looking for a nice tasting room, there are others that are so much nicer.
Tasting room in wine making room, Barrels everywhere, friendly staff. GREAT WINE>>> you need to go here.
