This could an outstanding destination: however, it is ran down, not clean and was a disappointment!I think the year round it is windy. This happens, but you want to go back to a pleasant place. This is not it.
This place is absolutely disgusting in every sense of the word. Apparently it is a campground as well so the tub is full of a bunch of camping people who look like they are using it to bathe. The construction of the tub looks to be pieces parts thrown together and the pipes shake around so violently that your concerned they may explode in your face. WORD OF CAUTION!!! This place is bathing suit optional, it says only on certain days but apparently its every day. There were TONS of children witnessing all of it as well. How traumatizing, everyone who should have had a suit on didn't... and there was a nasty film of some sort of bacteria in the bottom of the tub.
My spouse and I visited Dakota Hot Springs on the recommendation of a relative. We were warned that the place was not fancy so we weren't expecting much. However we were pleasantly surprised that although it was rustic, it also had everything needed to make a pleasant hit springs experience. We enjoyed it so much, we went back a couple of nights later. Both nights we attended on a cold winter evening and I was worried that the cold temperature would make getting from the warming house to the water unpleasant. In reality, I found that as long as you had something on your feet (I used flip flops). That even below freezing temperatures were not bad as the warming house is only about three or four paces from the poolside. The water is very warm and that keeps things very comfortable.Be warned that if you are offended by nudity, this isn't the place for you. All days except Tuesdays are clothing optional. We found that only a third or a quarter of the guests opted to wear bathing suits. If you can't abide nudity, go on a Tuesday. The other guests are very friendly and many are regulars here. We enjoyed meeting people here and we will definitely go back here the next time we visit the area.
Maybe coming from CA, I expected more from a hot springs location, say... trees, a water fountain??? this is a large, grungy concrete "pool" if you will, in the middle of a dirt area, complete with rusty pipes, uneven cement and shabby lean-to for shade. Oh did I mention, it's clothing optional? There are showers, (dirty) and toilets, clean but stinky, ,and on the weekends you can even get massages and possibly soft drinks from the "snack bar". However, during the week, 3 floating rafts are available and maybe 3 swimming "noodles" as well. Darn, I missed the naked volleyball!!! Anyway, there isn't even a drinking fountain available, but can of course buy drinking water. The day we were there, maybe the only 3 in swimsuits, there were also children in the water, in diapers, with the nudists. what a joke. All this for a mear $10. We knew it was clothing optional, but never children optional.
