I had a cup of hot chocolate and a very good burger sitting in front of their fireplace on a very cold day. Loved it. The restaurant is right by the Arkansas River in a beautiful setting too. Just a bit off the beaten path though for sure.
Great trails for biking walking, and roller blading. Runs along the river with great views and some wildlife. Picnic area and play area for the kids
This is a great place to spend and afternoon with the twin veues of Raptor Center and Nature Center. Raptor Center. Quaint old building and housing area for the raptors. Love that these dedicated people care for these creatures that can no longer survive in the wild. It is obvious that the people at this facility care greatly for the birds in their care. Nature Center: Great place to walk, visit the creek, flyfish or simply watch. Lovely little restaurant right on the Arkansas River. Good food at a value price in an atmosphere that felt like I was on Safari. I'll be back for more.
Cool facility, Great outdoors for families and nature loversbe sure to visit Coyote Jacks while in the area
The Raptor Center was free to walk through. We saw around 20 birds - vultures, hawks, eagles, and owls. Good information cards about the birds and their personal stories. It was great to be able to see the birds so close up. There was a jar for donations-- please leave a donation! It is great that there are places like this to rehabilitate these awesome birds and share with the public those birds that cannot live on their own . When we left there was a wonderful raptor pole that birds had built a nest upon. We saw a number of hawks flying free in the area.
I have always enjoyed this place even though over the years, it is the same stuff to see! I was a little upset when my husband and I were taking a stroll, a couple bicyclists sped past us going way too fast regardless of the "bikers, please walk your bike" signs. The restaurant is always pleasant as well
Our three year old daughter loved our visit!! There were no other people there so you could really take your time and view the birds quite close up. Really nice experience!
The Nature and Raptor Center includes an area on the Arkansas with the Coyote Grill as a place for lunch. The Raptor Center is nearby, follow the signs, and open for a tour. Rehabilitated birds, who are too injured to be released are housed there and if you're lucky, one of the staff will give you a tour and tell you wonderful stories about the individual birds.
The nature center offers many amenities including the interesting Raptor Center for a close up view of birds of prey, picnicking along the Arkansas River, dining at the restaurant along the river, participating in an educational program or accessing the extensive Greenway trail system.
Nestled along the Arkansas River amidst huge cottonwood trees, is this very special place with an abundance of things to do-hiking (varying degrees of difficulty including a paved trail along the river that is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs), picnicking, biking, fishing (including an accessible pier), a nature trail, a restaurant with seating outdoors overlooking the river,a gift shop, and a wonderful raptor center. There is a trail from the main area to the raptor center or you can drive between the two. There is a $3.00 fee per car for parking, but you can park anywhere once you have the permit. The rest of the area is free. The raptor center was outstanding. Each bird is given a name, a brief bio is posted, and information on each species is give. What I liked was there were species there that are not usually seen in Colorado like the Mississippi Kite. Because the birds are used for educational purposes, they are referred to as "staff". It is wonderful to see that these badly injured birds can live well and provide a service to the visitors. The area was clean and benches provided in front of each bird allowed you time to leisurely enjoy watching them. There up is something here to interest people of all ages and a great place for families to spend time together. The raptor center is closed Mondays and open 11 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Sunday. The gift shop has random hours as far as the restaurant staff told me. I was there at 3 PM on a Wednesday and it was closed until 4 PM.
It is small but a nice selection- when we were there a naturalist givng a free talk about a falcon named Phoenix- very interesting and informative- afterward there was an opportunity to have your picture taken with PhoenixThey a very friendly cat who lives there- it is all outside
This is a wonderful place for injured Birds of Prey to live. They take care of the birds who otherwise would die in the wild from disease or broken wings.
We visit the center on every trip--great in all seasons, especially to get of the heat and into the nice trees and enjoy nature (watch out for poisonous snakes though)
This place is awesome! I wish it was bigger! The whole thing is centered around the awesome creatures here! It's a lot more than I expected!
Well, the work that Diane and staff do on a daily basis caring for these birds is amazing. They are such caring people and these wounded birds are lucky to have this place. If more people knew what time and effort was put into the Center maybe more donations would come pouring in. The Nature Center down below the Raptor Center has become a very beautiful place to not only walk around or have an outdoor event at, but, the café is great also.
