We were very fortunate to have a tour with John - the butler for Tweet. All the docents are well-versed in the history, art, and castle architecture. Sign up for the actual tour way in advance. If you want the high tea, that is nice too but the tour is quick and dirty. You do not get the educational history of the castle with the high tea. Will definitely go back for more events (concerts, tastings, etc.). When driving to the castle, look to the right and there is a rock that is the headstone of the bulls that Tweet breed. Also there is her gravesite - the docent will tell you the history of the entrance (stone arch) to her grave. Enjoy all the petrified wood used in the architecture, not to mention the art collection and the castle interior design.
This place is beautiful and rich with history, complete with gargoyles and tiny winding stairs. Fabulous artwork and furniture to rival a museum. We went to a classy and fun outdoor dinner and dancing event and toured the castle. The sunset patio views are incredible along with views from the castle tower above, this is a unique and memorable place to take guests from out of town and most people don't even know it's there.
I am a Colorado Springs native with family throughout the area. Just last year I heard about Cherokee Ranch. I went to a wonderful Christmas Tea and tour with girlfriends in December. I went to a fabulous spring tea and tour with girlfriends in March. Our husbands were feeling left out so today we went to Lunch on the Terrace (and tour) with husbands plus my mother who's birthday was today. The lunch was fabulous, all 16 on the terrace sang happy birthday to my 84 year old mother as they served the yummy candlelit dessert, AND the guys enjoyed it all! Downtown Denver and Pikes Peak look amazingly close from the castle tower.
People who live in the area don't even realize what is in their back yard. If you have the opportunity to go to ANY event here, we highly recommend it. Most recently we (family of four - 1 teen, 1 pre-teen) went to a murder mystery dinner theatre at the castle, but have been to a Mother's Day Brunch, tea, concert and castle tour over the last 4 years. All have been wonderful experiences and the view is beautiful. Just a note on the tours - the younger ones may not stay entertained on a full tour as they are long (very interesting, but not ideal for those under 9). The mini-tours might be a better choice for them. All the activities are worth the price!!
And way too well of a kept secret. Available for tours, special occassion rental and summer concert programs. I have enjoyed it for all venues. This is sadly a secret in the area and a spectular find
Went with my husband, brother and sister-in-law from VA. So cool! I love history and castles and it's so neat to have a few castles in Colorado to enjoy and take visitors to. The weather was rainy when we started and you could imagine you were in Scotland. Tour guides are the former employees and were wonderful, informative and shared some personal stories with us during their employment. I found the history of the very well preserved furniture interesting. Very interesting attraction and the view.....!!!!! Unable to take pictures inside. You need to make reservations in advance as you are not allowed on the grounds without. The drive from the main road to the castle is 2 miles long so once you turn off the main road, don't fret. It will be awhile before it appears. We saw a flock (?) of wild turkeys at the entrance. I think this would be quite boring to small children. There is absolutely NOTHING one can touch and they mean it! Our group was all adults. Well worth the visit, I highly recommend it if you like to see something different. Oh, not much to see on the grounds, views are from the balcony during the tour, outside a bit of a view. No way to walk around the castle to the view side.
The tea at the castle is wonderful. Although we visited on a day when wild fires were burning across the front range, we had a great time and really enjoyed the tour and tea. I highly recommend this to those who enjoy the tea experience. The Art displayed in the castle is like European museum.
We took our out of town visitors to Cherokee Ranch and Castle for one of the public tours on a Saturday. Not only was it well organized and planned, but the docents were wonderful. Our particular one had worked at the Castle for Tweet Kimball and the fact that she knew so many fascinating stories and actually lived made the tour more than special. The history itself is fascinating and the view spectacular. We are so glad we decided to take in this attraction and honored we met such special people who made Ms. Kimball come alive for us. Fortunately, my husband and I live close and can return.....and we will!
The most beautiful castle nestled in the midst of the Rocky Mountains. The building is quirky, yet sophisticated and oddly doesn't seem out of place on a ranch. The guides gave a wonderful tour and told many stories about the families who have called Cherokke Ranch home. I will definitely go back on my next trip out west
"Tweet" Kimball bought the castle in 1954 and filled it with her collections of European furniture and paintings. We took the tour ($15/person) which was conducted by a volunteer docent and lasted an hour-and-a-half.Some interesting architectural features, e.g., secret cupboards and winding narrow, spiral staircases..Plenty of parking; short hike from parking lot up to door of the castle. I didn't see an elevator and don't remember the tour guide mentioning one.
