We got to the mountain early and had the fresh powder all to ourselves for like half an hour, it was fabulous! My first beginner trip was to Wolf Creek and that was a nightmare. Kendall was heaven comparatively speaking! I really had space to learn and people were really respectful that I didn't know what I was doing, even when I fell off the lift several times. I started getting it towards the end of the day and it was so much fun! Make sure you bring your own food!
6 full days, 4 endurance challenge formats (6-day, 72 hour, 48 hour, 24 hour) all on the Kendall Mountain ski lift. Beautiful one mile loop trail. Even if you only go around once, the views of Silverton are worth the effort. Try early morning while the mist is still on the pond, or go late in the evening for sunset and watch the town of Silverton light up; it's a Norman Rockwell moment.
Highly recommend a ride up Kendall Mountain! We rode our ATV up the road to Kendall Mountain, and the view was excellent -- all of Silverton on display, surrounded by majestic mountains, and if you time it right, the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad coming through the valley! On ATV, not a technical ride, and nothing like Imogene Pass, Engineer, or coming down Cinnamon Pass towards the American Basin -- just general stuff for off roading in CO. Once you park, you can climb up to the summit of a couple peaks, and then either go back down the trail you hiked up, or follow a separate trail that meets up with the original road (be careful). The drive up and down is beautiful! Great experience and views!
We headed up Kendall Mountain road dodging boulders and sharp rocks and watching all the time to edge of the road which loomed frightfully close. Our rented Cherokee had just enough clearance but a Wrangler would have been a better choice for this road. Gripping the door armrest and sitting up to help point the way we made it to the top and then had to make a several point turn to get pointed back down the road. We climbed out of the car to witness sight to behold. Beautiful scenery in all directions. It was well worth the 'bit' tense adventure.
Make sure your cooling system is in order as this is a very long trail to the top. If you do not like shelf roads with no passing places this is not for you.
Was actually up here on business but it was some of the most amazing views that you can see especially one that you can drive up! It was amazing and very awesome that you can drive to most areas and then the hike afterwards would just be the cherry on top.
Small, Very Cheap, safe Ski area for the whole family. Cant go wrong for 18$ a lift ticket. One Chair, nice lodge, cant beat it!
The view from the top is unbelievable!! The road is a bit scary in parts, but it was definitely worth the trip up there.
A nice place to stay north of Durango, spacious condo rentals, beautiful views, easy access to Music in the Mountains during their summer festival and a quick walk to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain and take the mountain slide back down...
We have all been skiing/snowboarding for years. When my parents bought a house in Silverton I was pleased to find that they had a small ski area. It has one lift but at the bargain basement price of $15 adults and $10 kids you can't beat it. We take our friends there to learn the ropes and then usually move on to Purgatory in a couple of days. Silverton is one of the most charming little towns I have ever been to! They also have a fun sledding hill, skating rink, and a wonderful deck for the family to sit and relax. Though not ideal for the extreme skiier (go to Silverton Mountain for that), this is the perfect place for families, beginners, and people who love to ski but also want to relax. I think mostly locals ski here....FYI--They are only open Friday-Sunday. Check the website before you go. You can get rentals a couple blocks away at the Wyman hotel--much cheaper than in Durango and they are SUPER friendly and helpful.
It is beautiful. The air is so fresh, lots of wild flowers, and mountain streams. You can see the whole town and neighboring moutain peaks.
Kendall mountain is such a great place to go skiing, snowboarding or even ice skating. My family and I stayed in Silveron at this wonderful B&B and they suggested we try Kendall mountain out, so we did and everyday we went there and it was a blast! The great thing is its for all ages.
The skiing was great and the "lifties" were awesome. Very friendly and helpful. We had a number of beginners and the staff was super. Malcom had a new trivia ? at every turn. Loved it and learned a few things while skiing.
