Unfortunately, as I write this on Dec 2, 2014 the Fox has been "temporarily closed" for almost a year and I am afraid it is very doubtful it will reopen anytime soon. When closed the Fox was not making money and the switch of movie theaters to digital projection was problably the last straw. The other movie theater in town, a four-plex has also had serious cash flow problems and was recently sold after several years of cash flow problems. Once they fixed the heating system, the Fox was a great place to watch movies, with it's old theater setting. It has two balcony sections, which I never saw opened, and hosted theater productions in the early 1900's. All in all an amazing historic building.
Although the Fox Theatre is temporarily closed it is still a fabulous building to look at. The inside offers the old type of theatre with 2 balconies. It also has a huge dance hall downstairs.
This theatre, built in an era when theatres were grandly appointed, was a real gem in the Trinidad, CO community for generations. More recently, it has been in dire need of some updates (repairs, good cleaning, etc.). Upon our recent visit, we found that the marquis stating "Temporarily Closed" was still in place. It has been there for sometime and we question if it will ever reopen. Don't plan on attending anytime soon.
Let me put this theater this way, they lure you in with the idea you will get to watch the latest hit in an old style classic building the Fox is located in however it is all an illusion. Yes, it is old and it probably hasn't been cleaned or renovated since the 70's. Their popcorn tastes stale, the butter is just greeze, the screen has stains and tears in it, it's falling apart so you can't utilize all the levels and the service is so poor you would think they are warding people away. Good advice is that you should wait for DVD for anything you might want to watch that is showing here.
