The steam engine and attached cars are nicely refurbished the display with all the national flags, that represent all the nationality that came to Trinidad in its' formative years.
This steam engine is located across from the Safeway parking lot and along the river walk. It is decorated for the holidays.
On the way to New Mexico, my family and I stopped at the park nearby for my two year old son to stretch his legs. While at the (Cimino Park) playground, we noticed the flags and the steam engine up the trail and decided to see it. It was a short walk along the Purgatoire from the park to the engine. As mentioned in all of the reviews prior, the engine, rail cars, and caboose are all behind a fence. The information regarding the engine is interesting, and it was neat to see all of the state flags, however, I unless you are a train buff or in the immediate area (Safeway or the park), I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see it.
This is a neat old train, with an informative sign. You cannot get on it, but it's fun to look at. There is a nice playground nearby, so it's a fun little stop with children before letting them run around in the playground.
If your kid (or other loved one) enjoys trains, this is an attraction for you.Engine 638 (and several train cars behind it) are stationed at the edge of the Safeway parking lot. To really see it, cross the street and walk between the train and the flags of all 50 states.Sadly, the train is behind a fence, so neither kids nor adults can climb around on it. That is fun we aren't going to be able to have.
What can you say. Saw an engine. An average display. Maybe I've seen too many as I've traveled across the country.
Wasn't really anything to it but it was neat to go look at. If you are hanging around Trinidad I would stop by and check it out.
On the edge of the Safeway carpark is not the right location. The train looks good albeit a bit neglected but should be alongside the Amtrak station a few hundred metres away.
The engine is a neat reminder of the past and the importance of steam engines in the history of Colorado. The parade of States flags with plaques commemorating when that state joined the Union to become part of the United States was fascinating. Don’t expect to spend more than 20 minutes here, but use it as the starting point for a short river walk (cool rock painting along the way). A great start to discovering the quaint town of Trinidad. Easy access form I-70 and Safeway is across the parking lot so a picinic in the adjoining park is easy.
The location, right off the street, is easy to access. It is near a walking path along a small river. It has the usual fence around it so I had to climb a pile of rocks to take a picture. Worth a stop.
