We drove out close to dusk to see thousands of bats leave a deserted mine and head out over the valley. It was fantastic. The bats are there seasonally so it is good to call their website and make sure that the bats are on site. Allow plenty of time, the road leading to Orient Land Trust is unimproved (level, but bumpy, so a slow go). When you arrive park in the designated area and go to their Visitor Center. Sign in and they will give you a map and brochure. The hike up to the mine takes an hour (depending on how fast you walk) and it is all up hill. Take flashlights, as you will come down after dark. We truly enjoyed watching the bats. It took less than 10 minutes for them to vacate the mine. There was no charge for the bat hike; however day use fees are charged for using the other amenities.The property is clothing optional.
