If you are a mountain bike enthusiast here is a park to practice your skills in. Good enough to draw pro events each year.
The first time we went to the Valmont Bike Park, we decided being a Boulder resident is as close to living in Elysium as you can get this side of utopian science fiction. If you like to bike--no matter what your skill level or age--and you have not tried it, you are missing out on a truly outstanding "perk" for living in (or visiting) Boulder.Lots of other reviewers have pointed out the variety of terrain and excellent trail maintenance, so I'll just say "ditto" on those. What I want to emphasize is how well designed the trails are to maximize the fun of riding a bike. Almost all of the trails include options (take the jump or go around it, ride over the cobblestones or avoid them), so you can ride with cyclists of varying skill or confidence levels on the same trail--scare yourself a little or a lot! In many ways it is like an amusement park, except that you get a workout--and it is totally free.I do recommend that you go on weekdays if you can or early/late on the weekends, as it can get crowded on beautiful days.
This is an incredible park. The best facilities I've been around for free. Bathrooms, free water and tools. The trails are inmaculate, very well taken care of, when the weather allows it. Definitely the best spot to hone your bike skills..!
Our bike park is one of Boulder's special treats for locals and visitors alike. With terrain features ranging from smooth, winding paths to "big air" jumps - and everything in between, the Valmont Bike Park should not be missed. Lot's of parking and good bike paths if you choose to leave the car at home.
This is a great park for all riding abilities. Its very well maintained. Has some challenging areas, butt all in all it is a great place to hone your skills. Their are usually not a tone of people, but everyone works together. The only weird thing is that it is right next to the Boulder County Jail, so now & then you get some outside entertainment!!
This place is like a huge bike playground suited for all ages and skill levels, and it's FREE. There are several different paths to follow around, some downhill tracks, several obstacles, jumps, dual downhill track, and lots of room to ride and practice mountain biking techniques. For those not into biking, there is a dog park and kiddie playground on premise to keep everyone entertained. The only downfall is that this place is so fun and accessible it can often get crowded. The parking lots can become full and trails can get overcrowded, but this usually only happens during peak times, like afternoons and weekends.I have been surprised at how much fun I have each time I go and I'm not even an avid biker.
I have never seen a playground like this before. Great for the youngest on scooter bikes up to cooks who want to jump and twist and do fancy tricks. Great family day of the bike. Bring drinks, snacks, picnic. Beautiful this time of year...prairie, birds, water fowl.
This is such a great facility for riders of all skill levels. Every city in America should pay attention to what boulder has done with this park. Free and wonderful for kids and grown ups alike.
I went with my three boys and we all had a blast. I am so impressed with this Bike Park - i only wish we had something similar in Denmark. The place is huge, and facilitates all abilities. I am very impressed with the ones who designed this place. If there were bike rental on site, it would be number 1 tourist attraction in Boulder!
World class bike park as well as a fantastic dog park and lots of wonderful walking paths. Wonderful and large disc golf course. I definitely recommend a visit if you are looking for some outdoor time in the city of boulder.
All levels of paths are available to mountain bikers from easy to extremely difficult. There are great challenges here if you are looking for that.
Attended a family member's 13 year old (twins) birthday party. Have never I seen kids more excitied, social, supportive of each other, bloody-bruised, and smiling to beat the band then I have at this park. This was a great venue for kids of any age (is there a limit?), and family members to gather.
Valmont is a real Boulder treasure. Whether you want a mellow cruise on the cross country trails, a challenge on the dirt jumps or to practice skills on the pump tracks Valmont Bike is great! There's even a tricycle track and playground for the littlest cyclists.
This bike park has it all. Something for the very experienced pro riders to those just starting out on dirt. My only complaint would be sometimes it can get very crowded, and some people don't know to pull over if you are going to stop. The routes are very well marked with a good variety of terrain. At the end of a few hours I always find myself with a grin on my face when leaving. Check it out, its pretty fun.
This bike park caters to a wide range of cyclists...from brand new riders to professional mountain bikers and BMXers. Routes are marked according to their difficulty: Extra small, small, medium, large, and extra large features.Wear a helmet at the very least. Many riders use additional protective gear if they are tackling the harder terrain. Most importantly, know your ability. Start easy and work up. If you are bringing children to the park, please stay to watch. Kids sometimes will try hard things to impress friends, or because they haven't developed enough discernment to assess risk. Most families prefer to avoid ER trips. Be safe.Tip: Before heading to Valmont, check to make sure it's open. A heavy rain or snow can close down the park for several days. And sometimes, areas of the park are closed for maintenance. Here's where to check the park status: https://www.facebook.com/ValmontBikePark
