这条经就是target后面那条,因为太阳照过去的时候,整座山就变成红色的了,非常漂亮。如果下次可以爬完山,再下来target买东西或者喝杯星巴克。
Nice enjoyable hike. Took our time and enjoyed the views. Not too difficult. There's a road if you are uncomfortable with the hiking trail. Would do it again.
A wonderful experience for our daughter's boyfriend from Estonia, who had never been to the U.S. Red Mountain with it's easier access (for a wheelchair) allowed him to experience some of Glenwood's true beauty! He was even fortunate to spot a beautiful young buck along the trail. One of our family's favorite hikes.
I rode my mountain bike up the Red Mountain trail this morning. I found it very enjoyable! Excellent views. Steep but manageable climb. Glad I had good brakes for the descent. I had about an hour to kill before the grand kids were up to go to the adventure park. I did not complete the summit but I must have been close. If you go do it early in summertime as it can get hot. Bring water! Don't forget the camera! AWESOME VIEWS! Sorry I said that already. I will definitely do it again. My bike computer says I went about 1260 ft ascent.
There are about a half dozen trails that begin in Glenwood Springs and climb the mountains that border the town. Red Mountain is one of the most popular. We like it for the great workout (about fifteen hundred feet of vertical in a couple of miles) and the views of town and Mt. Sopris.
Also called the Jeanne Golay Trail. The length is listed differently online and in the local map but the trail head sign says it is 3.5 miles. I think that is one way (sure felt like it :) ) I walked to the trail head from the hot springs pool - 1.7 mile each way - very easy pleasant walk.On the way there, I missed the cut thru path from Midland to Red Mtn Dr - so I went down to 10th and back tracked - wasn't very far. But fyi - to find the path, walk cross the street at the intersection of 8th & Midland - right when you walk across the bridge over Roaring Fork. I admit I am not very good with directions so take it with a grain of salt when I say I had a hard time actually finding the trail up the mountain. There was lots of snow so some things were harder to see that they might be without snow. There are two nice kiosk signs that talk a little about the trail - but there didn't seem to be a sign at the actual start of the trail. The snow made it pretty and a fun adventure but there were tracks in every direction and I was not sure which path was the trail. I followed the one with the most wear and it was beautiful and challenging, but I hiked for about 30 minutes before I knew I was one the right trail. The way up wasn't too bad for me in my hiking boots - but it was pretty slick coming down - I chose to walk the road back about 2/3 the way down. The locals who passed me had some kind of ice wear on over their shoes - not full crampons but something similar. I found the hike pretty strenuous - I am not in very good shape - but I highly recommend it. The views were beautiful and I felt like I earned my evening soak in the hot springs pool! It took me almost two hours to hike up and 45 minutes to come back down - but I stopped a bunch on the way up to rest and enjoy the view. PS - I choose the hiking trail for the trip up but I could have just walked up the road - that would have been nice and there is a locked gate so there are very few cars. I was impressed with all the folks running the road!
About a three mile walk, each way, to the cross on top of Red Mountain. Several choices, up the road, up the fairly well maintained though not well signed, trails. City owned so dogs are supposed to be on a leash. Excellent view of Glenwood from several rest stops.
My family and I hiked Red Mountain Trail June 2013. This was my first time on this trail. Half our party hiked the "hard" trail (strenuous hiking up a small trail up the mountain) and my half took the "easy" trail. The "easy" was still quite difficult, and this version of the trail is the trail that you see outlined on the map at the trail head. It's quite steep hiking up this road, and while nice and clear (dirt road most of the way) you're still getting quite a workout. On the road, there are plenty of trees and flowers to look at, and the shade the trees give is a nice respite from the June sun. The breeze travels well down the road (not so on the harder, smaller trail). There are two benches along the way that you can rest at, that give a great view of the valley that Glenwood Springs is in, and you can see Mt. Sopris in the distance (great photo opportunities). We even saw a deer come bounding down the trail quite close to us. At the top of the trail there is a (now warped) wooden picnic table and some larger rocks that you can sit on to relax and catch your breath. Make sure to bring PLENTY of water, especially in the summer months.
