This was the best hike of our trip. The trail was not difficult, although we were told it had changed since the floods of Sept 2013. Beautiful scenery all the way up. We made it as far as the Calypso cascades. Approx 3 hrs hike round trip. Walking sticks help. Headed back down to the fog rolling in. Made it a scary drive back down the mountains.

This is on The Ouzel Falls Trail. This hike is 0.3 miles to get to. There's a side trail that takes you to the lower falls & another to the upper falls overlook. If you don't want to go any farther, then the trail is 0.6 miles round trip. I would encourage you to continue a little further. Even if you don't want to go all the way to Ouzel Falls, you can still go as far as you want & turn around when you get tired.

The Wild Basin Area is in the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain National Park and has a lot to offer. The path to Copeland Falls is a nice, simple hike that will give you a taste of its beauty. It takes you past babbling brooks and lush forest. Most of the path follows North St. Vrain Creek so you'll be accompanied by the sound of rushing water as you go and have frequent glimpses of the fantastic river. There are rocks of all shapes and sizes which are fun to climb. We brought sandwiches and had a picnic lunch right off the trail near the creek. Along the way, we were greeted by a friendly ground squirrel which clearly was used to being fed by visitors. He came right up to me begging for food. If you see him, say hi to Chippy but pease DO NOT feed the animals! It was overcast the day we were there which scared away a lot of tourists, so we had the trail all to ourselves. Even though it was drizzly and wet, we still enjoyed our hike because we had our rain jackets. We continued past Copeland Falls to Calypso Cascades and the more adventurous people can go even further to some alpine lakes.

It's a busy trailhead but really pretty and good for kids too. Need a pass into Rocky Mtn National Park to visit it.

We wanted a nice hike to take our kids on that would still show them nature- this is it! We have three kids aged 13, 4, and 2. They all loved going to Copeland falls and so did me and my husband! The trail had people on it but was not crowded you couldn't enjoy your time. Round trip I believe is .8 miles which with young kids was perfect- they still had rocks to climb and sticks to find but walked the entire time. We can't wait to go again!

This was an easy hike - a good way to get acclimated to the altitude gradually. A very popular hike though - lots of people and parking filled up fast.

This was our first hike in RMNP and a great start to our trip. The parking lot was full when we got there, so the rangers had us park further down, adding a bit to our hike, but that was just fine. We hiked to Copeland Falls (beautiful) then continued on to Calypso Cascades. We had considered going on to Ouzel Falls, but started to drizzle so we turned back (it never did rain on us though). What a lovely hike, and not too difficult for a first day, but challenging enough that it left us with a feeling of accomplishment. Don't forget the Wild Basin area if you visit RMNP!

We made this our last hike of our latest Rocky trip. We did this late in the afternoon and had no trouble finding parking. The trailhead is located about 1.5 miles down a dirt road at the Wild Basin entrance to the park. It was great for us because we wanted to do one more hike but we all tired. It was only about .3 miles one way on an easy trail. You get a great view of the falls. I would recomend you go early or late because the parking lot is small.
