We love the rollers and the trees on Grand Review and Star. Belle's is also a great place to grab a snack or lunch and the views are incredible!
I love going back in to blue sky basin, the only thing is so does everyone else. The best is if I can get in there early in the morning and when everyone else heads over I go to the front of the mountain. The trails are interesting and the views phenomenal. Once I am through the line though I notice that the mountain never really seems crowded.
The lift lines were at times long, but we stayed in the back bowls and away from the crowds. The price is costly so my friends and I only ski here a few days during our vacation to Colorado.
Open bowls and gladed areas. Although fair number of skiers it is so vast that not an issue. I imagine Saturday's could experience long lift lines. We did not ski on Saturday.
From the beauty of skiing Grand Review to the fun bumps in The Divide. Great skiing with little crowds.
Huge bowl - every time I've skied it, it just gets better. Head there first thing so you have a lot of time to play
when you ski almost every weekend like I do, it gets pretty expensive to buy lunch. So we've discovered the grills on the top of blue sky where we make delicious burritos that satisfy us for an afternoon on the back bowls. I always head out right to blue sky as early as it opens (10 am) for fresh tracks and to store my burritos so I can come back later to throw em on the grill (wrapped in foil of course).
We have been going to Vail for many years and greatly enjoy skiing the back bowls. Blue Sky is probably the best part of the bowls. The skiing is usually superb. Unfortunately, to get there from the front there is only one lift and, if you time it wrong, it gets very crowded with long wait times. Talk to a local about how to time it to best avoid the crowds. The skiing is tremendous.
Blue Sky is the most recently opened terrain on Vail Mountain and looks more like a wilderness area. Great for finding powder even a couple days after new snow, but beware of the hassles at lift 36 getting back to the front on a crowded day. There is only one way out.
When the snow has fallen or is falling it is hard to beat Blue Sky Basin. We just returned from a wonderful trip. We thought we would be one of the first up to make fresh tracks and got in line at 9:30am despite the clearly marked signs saying the lift wouldn't turn until 10:00am. Imagine our surprise when at 9:39am the lift started running and we were off to make first tracks.
Groomed and ungroomed trails please everyone! Check on the grooming report to capture the experience!
This was our favourite area of Vail. A reasonable percetage of runs were groomed and after mid morning the lift lines are not too bad.
Back bowls at Vail sound intimidating. Blue Sky has two runs that are usually groomed: Big Rock Park and Grand Revie. Both runs are long and just fun for an intermediate skier who likes cruising.
Perfect for a bluebird day. Amazing views from the top of snowy peaks for miles. Great skiing. Difficult to get back from without a guide or good knowledge of the slopes.
Varied ski terrain to suit all levels of ability. Particularly enjoyed it when there was a bit of powder around.
