If you are in lake george area and you want to go kayaking, this place would be a good option for below reasons1. It is at Bolton landing about 10m from the main area2. This also behind the bridge and you dont see a lot of speed boats of cruise boats going around which means less turbulence in the water and a better experience for you especially if you have a small kids with you (if you are the adventurous type, you could also go around the island and get into the mainstream where you have all the traffic in the lake)3 Good helpful staff
This place is a little out of the way and parking is very limited. The person directing parking is very nice and helpful but don't let the bad attitude of the kid at the check-in desk put you off. It was a nice row around the island. If you’re not willing to put up with bad attitudes, then there are plenty of more convenient, friendlier locations on the lake.
My family rented paddle boards here and had a great experience on the bay near the kayak company's rental location. The place was busy but the staff got everyone in and out quickly. Rentals are pricey, but so is everything on Lake george in the summer.
Great place. Super nice staff who are extremely helpful and patient. Pay after you're done, so leave all your stuff in your car and be ready to paddle. They hold your keys. Will go back here every time!
Right at the pier and easy slide off the pier.Great sales on the outdoor clothing and gear.Friendly staff.
Had a really great experience at the Lake George Kayak Company. I'm not a stranger to the Lake or keeping yourself safe on the water, so knew that I definitely wanted to try something a little more different, challenging and fun. I begged my husband to take me to The Lake George Kayak Company to rent a SUP. Their location is the best place to try out this sport - the waters aren't too choppy since they are located in a no wake zone; but if you seek adventure and are confident then you definitely have the ability to pass the zone. The staff was great. I was very nervous, but they ensured us that we would be fine and have an awesome time. They gave a quick lesson on how to keep yourself stable; balanced and stacked. I would recommend renting from them any day of the week. My husband and I plan to return again. Thank you Lake George Kayak for such a great day!!!
My friends visited from out of town and wanted to go kayaking. Rather than take them to the more local spot, I thought it would be nice to get into the adirondacks and go kayaking on lake George. While the kayak co would not allow me to reserve boats, they assured me that they had a large fleet and if we were only 4 people we could likely get out with minimal wait. All was good until we were about to get in to the kayak on the doc and my wife said, I think there is urine in the kayak. The kid working on the doc said he didn't smell anything and we embarked on our journey shortly thereafter. An hour later, after a mostly pleasant paddle other than avoiding the parade of competitors in the 'who's got too big of a boat going too fast in traffic given the size of the lake' competition, we returned to the dock, now soaked in urine. We tried to be gracious but wanted the kid on the dock to know there was urine in the boat so they would rinse it out and that no one else would have urine in the boat. The dock employees now acknowledged that the boat had urine and were polite. The problem was that our shorts were soaked in urine and we had an hour drive. Fortunately the kayak co has a clothes shop. In my underwear I mentioned the problem to store manager who at first appeared incredulous. One of the doc workers who was observing confirmed the situation as the manager was not interested in smelling my shorts. At this point I expected them to want to quickly try to accommodate me. I asked to speak with the owner but the manager told me the owner was on a call and suggested I pick something I like. After picking through the sale rack of overpriced merchandise I found something that would suffice as dry shorts and that I might wear again. I found the manager who walked to the register. He said he could give me an additional 10% off the shorts. I scoffed. Then he suggested another 10% off the shorts originally marked at 20% off of $80. I explained that I didn't want $50 shorts I wanted something I could wear so that I didn't have to be in my urine soaked shorts in public and on the drive home. I was willing to pay $20 for any pair of shorts. The manager said he'd now try to get the owner but at this point I was fed up. Essentially he was willing to 'compensate' me $16 to ride around in a boat soaked in urine for an hour. If the owner by now didn't have the decency to come make this right I wasn't going to inconvenience myself anymore with management who didn't 'get it'. I'm a reasonable person. I wasn't asking for anything for free. in the end we tried to make the most of our experience. That said If this were the only game in town, I'd find another town.
We recently the USA from the UK in order to attend the Dave Matthews concerts at SPAC. We stayed for a few days after and our son from Texas joined us.On the hotel's recommendation we travelled to lake George and found the visitors centre. From there we telephoned Kayak Company and very given directions and were easy to understand and follow (bearing in mind we are from Britain and are unsure on US roads).Whilst my son has experienced of kayaking my husband has none. I would disagree wholeheartedly with the last review as the 2 young lads at the Kayaking company were more than helpful and answered all my husband's questions and concerns about falling out of the kayak and how deep the water was without being patronising. We all enjoyed the whole experience and my husband felt totally confident (due to the reassurance from the 2 lads) within a few minutes. You can go either direction on the lake and its quite calm but if you go under the bridge and out there are a number of other boats which can make the water more choppy. However everyone seemed to be considerate. My family and I would definitely recommend this place and if you get a chancre go into the great shop where you will be welcomed by very friendly staff. We shall certainly be returning to this place again next year.
My mother has been talking about going kayaking forever! We go to Bolton landing just for the day to check out the kayak company we get there only to find out they have moved with no sign stating there new physical address. After going to the visitor center who agreed they should put up some signs we get to their new location to inquire about lessons and some toothless college kid tells my mother no we don't do lessons we just give you a 5 min tutorial in how to get yourself out of the kayak if you flip over! So needless to say we were out of there! It's such a shame that this place could do really well if they had some employees who cared. We went to LL bean in nj and they took us out on a guided kayak tour and it was great!
