Conveniently located off of the Hardscrabble Road exit on Route 684 or a quick cab ride from the Croton Falls train station, this place is an easy destination for NYC travelers. We visit every year for apples, cider and most importantly, their homemade baked goods. Yum!Don't forget some homemade jam and other jarred items while you're there.
Great way to top off a leisurely sight seeing drive up Rt 22. Whether leaf peeping in the fall or just bypassing the busy highway for a less hectic drive, this is a great place to stop. Apples and other local produce are tops but the real attractions are the fresh baked goods. Unlike the more commercial place just up the road (where the pies aren't fresh baked) Salingers bakes their own. Fresh, hot donuts right out of the fryer (bet you can't eat just one!), fresh pies (get the pumpkin in season), strudel, muffins and other pastries. All baked right in the back room.Jams, jellies and other jarred items line the shelves as well.Grab a cup of coffee or hot cider and a couple donuts, sit at one of the two tables in the back and take a break from the modern world. Don't forget to take home some apples and a pie or two on the way out!Actually very easy to get to. Hardscrabble Rd on one side, Rt 22 on the other (directly opposite the dam). Two quick turns off either one. Look for the rustic sign.
The Orchard is easy to reach and the ride is lovely, whether you the quick way on Rt 6 84 or wind through the back roads from Katonah. For years we have been going to Salingers Orchard Farm Market Everyone, from the tiniest members of the family to the grandparents enjoy what Salingers offers. The food is fresh and delicious and there is a variety to choose from. The service is pleasant and efficient and there is ample parking. The pumpkins and flowers glow. We like to go during the week for a special treat
Awful experience. Tried to return a rotten pumpkin and they treated me like a criminal. Would've preferred it if they had simply said a polite, "Sorry, no return policy." But instead they gave me the third degree, grilling me with all kinds of ridiculous questions, totally treating me like a scam artist. Will go to Harvest Moon instead from now on.GS
Salinger's is our go to place for orchard fresh apples, which are so much better than what you get in the supermarket. They have many varieties, check their website for the picking schedule. Peaches, plums, tomatoes, peppers, squash, gourds and pumpkins are also available in season. The smell of homemade donuts perfumes the air. Shelves are stocked with local jams and honey and they do a brisk business in homemade pies and fresh pressed cider, especially around Thanksgiving. The decor is basic warehouse. The processing facility is at one end and the kitchen at the other. There is a merciful absence of kitschy tchochkes for sale. We had a lovely picnic at one of their tables out back, set against a backdrop of laden apple trees and a brilliant blue sky. It doesn't get any better than that.
A great place to go for the apples. The cidar donuts & hot cidar are always delicious! We buy the jams & jellies for Holiday gift baskets.
There's no place better in the fall than Salinger's Orchard. The smell of fresh apples, the hot fruit pies and doughnuts are wonderful. Fresh squeezed cider and one of the few orchards in the area that has Golden Delicious apples.
A winding & narrow road (so go slow) takes you to Salingers where you will find fresh produce all year round plus great buys on maple syrup, apples and tasty bakery goods. Donuts are the "bet you can't eat just one " variety, and the large pies are usually the very best. Every once in awhile you get one that is undercooked - especially the peach pie. Last one I bought had a gooey inside crust and hard peaches - had to throw it out. So I would stick to the berry pie or be sure you pick a pie that looks very well baked. Staff is nice but calling /telling them about problem gets no results. Still would go back again since we live so close..
Love this place, love the staff and owners. They know what they are doing and will tell you all about the orchard they have been running for years and years!
A local spot for great treats! I enjoy coming here. It is a large space, great parking, beautiful orchards and very nice people. The road getting there can be a little scary when people go too fast so be cautious and go slow. I particularly love the apple and pumpkin butters. Spend a little extra to avoid the high fructose corn syrup varieties. They are a little gummy compared to the natural sugar ones. Everything they bake is fabulous. They have a great little bee display with live bees. Perfect for kids to see the inner workings of a hive. My only negative comment would be the use of pesticides on the apples. I would have given it five stars if they practiced a more organic orchard experience.
The first time you drive on Guinea Road you think you've made a mistake ... but stick with it and go slow. We love shopping at Salinger's just because of all of the local produce and goodies, but even if they didn't have that we would go there for the PIES! They're open year round but, obviously August - December is when it is most fun to go. (They also sell firewood, Christmas trees, and holiday decor.)
Its close to another orchard that you wait an hour to get into. Don't think you can go apple picking here but pick up some apple cider donuts.
Only the locals go here, because this place doesn't advertise and its pretty hard to get to...hving to cross UNDER 684... but Tolally worth finding.. Their own fruit, honey and doughnuts,
