after playing this course for many years and very often I feel I can come to an honest appraisal of both tracks. they are well kept for the amount of play they endure and being older courses they have definitive characters of their own. the trees that line the fairways are very "mature" and a number of fairways are narrow on both courses so if you "wander" to the left or right you will most likely be in trouble on your next shot. several holes also have mid fairway bunkers to add to its difficulty. a seasoned golfer might appreciate these "tests" but I find that those who don't play that often might find this a challenge. I am a long time player who plays many private courses and I rank these two courses with the best of them but I think there are other courses in the area that the inexperienced player would enjoy more.

This was Halloween party at split rock 10/31/14. Was not managed right. Buffet finished by 830 ran out of food.

Both courses are well maintained. Split Rock is more challenging - interesting holes, more hills, and longer par 4's. Heads up - bring mosquito spray for Split Rock.

I recently played Split Rock and really liked it. It played long with plenty of challenges to make you think about how to set up your play. The course was in a great shape and the greens rolled well (at like an 8). I liked this track much better than Van Cortlandt. I look forward to playing Pelham Bay next time. My only advice to the course is to put another restroom on each 9 (not just at the turn) and get the drink cart coming around more often.

Split Rock is where i had my first and only Eagle, so it brings back good memories. You have tee-off early in the morning there on weekends, otherwise it will certainly be a 5-hour round. Not ideal. But the course is challenging and really good for a public course in the NY metro area. I highly recommend it.

There are 2 courses at this complex - Split Rock being the hardest and very difficult / Pelham being more playable. However, there are often openings on both sides during the weekdays - and the decision to play them should be solely based on asking about the greens. The green conditions can go from okay to horrible - not bad tracks if the greens are "okay" - but not worth going if horrible.

Big improvement in recent years, still more to do, on the course, Heading in the right direction, well done in that regard. Food and Drinks, are a little pricey.

i have played many courses in this area but none are as nice as these two. very easy to get a tee time a very reasonable greens fees..especially for seniors. the courses are well maintained and the fairways are tree lined like all the more mature courses such as these. the layout on both of the courses are great and even the high handicapper will have fun playing either one. i love these courses so much i informed my fellow golfers in my steady foursome that these are the only courses i want to play here in westchester...they are that nice and the atmosphere is wonderful with more af a private country club feel. if you play golf make this your next stop and you wont be sorry. best kept secret in nyc because it borders westchester on the coast of long island sound

Split Rock is an amazing course if you are a lower handicap golfer. One memorable hole reminds me of Pebble Beach with baranca stretching across the fairway.Great practice area for short game and nice restaurant for lunch or a snack.Large parking lot as well and you can park for free if you tell the attendant you will to park at the back of the lot (5 minute walk to the clubhouse).

Went to a Halloween party, Food is very good. Place seemed overcrowded. Drinks were reasonable. Would go back again

Actually there are two separate courses, and both are worthwhile. The courses are very well-maintained, the staff is pleasant and friendly and seriously helpful, the pro shop is small but well equipped, food at the snack bar is good, and for an outing, the catering service is extraordinary. And this is a PUBLIC course, only about 20 minutes from downtown Manhattan. A real jewel.

This is a great course, and incredibly close to the city, Also a week day tee time, with a cart was less than $50 so very reasonable.Could easily forget you are still in The Bronx, it really felt like a day in the country. The major downside to the course when we played was a lack of interest by the staff, from signing in at the pro shop, through to the starter, they were just miserable. And then no real monitoring of play. A group of 5 foursomes went out ahead of us and all played painfully slowly - a gentle prod from the staff would have made a huge difference to the day, and to overall enjoyment. This really is not the place to play if you expect to see courtesy, or any kind of etiquette, but if you want a game close to the city then give it a shot, but allow at least 6 hours to get round!
