The Upper Delaware area has so much to offer. Hiking, Rafting, Canoeing and so much more! The scenic byway (Route 97)has some breathtaking spots - especially the Hawks Nest - just north of Port Jervis. The foliage in the fall is spectacular. You can sometimes see bear, deer, fox, and bald eagles along the way. The Roebling Bridge (the oldest suspension bridge in NA) is a great place to stop also. Enjoy your trip - I know that I did.
I often kayak down the Delaware River from Narrowsburg, NY during the summer season.Never fail to see Eagles soaring or perched along the river bank I usually enjoy a 5-6 hour trip , depending on how long we linger along the banks or on a flat rock having lunch, from Narrowsburg launch to Lackawaxen, PA landing. What a fantastic way to spend a day . No phone calls, no noisy people , just blue skies, crystal clear, clean river water, usu warm enough to swim in. Calm waters, several rapids: just challenging enough for a thrilling, fun ride along the river waters. The Delaware River is open 7 days a week ,Spring through Fall ! if you have your own vessel, it is FREE!If you don't, try the Lander's River Trips (at various landings along Rt . 97) and rent a tube, kayak, canoe or raft.If you have never visited Narrowsburg, or enjoyed the Delaware River by kayak, canoe or tube, or a day of fishing, well, you just haven't lived yet! Narrowsburg is a great place to live or visit. I am lucky, I live here and love it!
great scenic ride for fall foliage with many interesting stops and dining alternatives. Also great in the summer for river activities
Small, old villages steeped in history, rolling hills, curvy roads, beautiful river where eagles soar. A lovely place to visit.
Just the right amount of class 2 rapids to make for a fun trip. Canoes were in good condition with adequate instruction for safety given by the staff.
The rapids are a bit mild, but if you're just looking for a canoe float or a raft with beers and summer sun, you've found it!
June 2014 my wide and I spent a week kayaking on the Upper Delaware River. Starting in Hancock, NY and finishing in Pond Eddy, NY. The trip was everything we could have asked for. Wilder and more remote than expected it rivaled our backcountry trips in the Northeast Kingdom and Maine. Riffles and whitewater stretches intermixed with flatwater sections where we could spend time spotting eagles and deer. Otters and Canadian geese paddled by as Merganser moma's ran across the water as we approached. The fish were plentiful as we could see schools of brown, brook and rainbow trout; shad; and eels swimming under our boats along with the occasional bass coming up to grab an insect off the surface.
OMG the Delaware is Beautiful! I stood on the shore and watched the rafters and the canoes on the water. They were having so much fun it made my 61y/o body want to join them.
If you drive up NY 97 to view the Upper Delaware River you will experience great views and if your are lucky and keep your eyes on the sky and the shoreline of the river you will probably see the Bald Eagles which winter here or reside here year round!
We stopped for several nice walks along the river in October. No one was there and it was beautiful. The path looked like a bike trail and if I'd had my bike with me I'd love to have biked it.
Saw the Catskill Mountains and fun area to be in. Mountains where changing colors. Played golf and eat at many resaurants.
The rain and not so sunny days is the disliked. The river is a great fun time ! But allways know safety 1st and your limits . Great cliff humping right across ' Eddy Farm ' def a deep spot even when water level is Low . See ya out there :)
What a beautiful river to paddle on-love it! I would recommend the paddle-amazing.
The Delaware River and surrounding countryside is very beautiful. We drove along it, stopping many times to take pictures and just watch the water flow by.
beautiful views along route 97 at the eagles nest of the delaware river and the rafters .
