we went to jamestown to see the lucille ball museum and learned of this from a brochure in the hotel. highly recommended. very interesting house with a wonderful docent who was very informative. lots on pictures of his career as a justice and nuremburg prosecutor. $5. suggested donation. worth it. go.
Though we stopped at the site only because it was on the list of Jamestown attractions, we were positively thrilled that we did. We learned so much about this forgotten hero of the US judicial system and his important role in international law. The beautiful historic house is located in an easily accessible area of the city and the tour guides are very knowledgeable. Be sure to add this to your list of must see attractions in Western New York State.
We knew little to nothing about RHJackson before visiting, but realized what an important man he was! The center is beautifully laid out, with photographs and displays in excellent order. Take the tour at 10 or 2 to get the most out of your visit. Not suitable for children, though--probably need to be 12-14 to appreciate it.
architectually, historically and judicially, this is a marvelous presentation, an 1850s home which looks as if it just passed through time, with various exhibits, mostly judiciary, of the former supreme court justice who lived her as a boy... verry, low key, parking could be a bit more driver-friendly...
The photos of the trial are one of a kind. Docent very knowledgeable and welcoming. Way too much to absorb in one visit. Pick up the brochure (really almost a magazine) and absorb the history at your leisure.
It was an enjoyable experience. Our tour guide was extremely and knowledgeable. No fee to enter but donations are accepted but they will not tell you that unless you ask. I loved all the information on the Nuremburg Trials and on the Nazi War criminals.
I just completed my tour of the Robert H. Jackson Center, and I came away very impressed. I had an excellent tour guide Linda. She taught me things even I didn't know like the chairs that all the Supreme Court Judges sat in were made in Jamestown. The RHJ Center is first class all the way and is a great addition to the city of Jamestown. By all means come to Jamestown and discover the Jackson Center, they have put Justice Jackson's life and accomplishments front and center for all to learn from.
The Robert H. Jackson Center is dedicated to the life and accomplishments of Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson. This center is a labor of love and respect. The Center contains information on his life and career, and about the Holocaust and Justice Jackson's work on the Nuremburg Trials. There are many rooms of incredible artifacts and historic documents, as well as multi-media presentations. There are other displays dealing with civil rights, peace, war and humanitarian endeavors. All in a beautiful Victorian building in the heart of Jamestown. Great for historians, educators, families, school groups, Supreme Court followers and those interested in learning more about the Holocaust.
What a great collection of history dedicated to the man instrumental in the Nuremburg trials. Plan to take some time and take an official tour with one of their excellent docents.
