Thank you for visiting and we appreciate your compliments about our whites. While reds on the east coast can often be lighter in body than our west coast and warm climate counterparts, you'll find that they are still balanced and food-friendly. You do make a good point that comparing them to warm regions may not be the best comparison. Our Bourbon has not been released for tasting or sales, so I wonder if you are referring to the Rye Whiskey (which is the only aged whiskey currently available as of November 2014) and are misinterpreting the spice from the grain as alcoholic heat? Our Rye is made using over 80% rye grain and the remainder is distiller's malt, so the spirit has distinct notes of rye spice on both the nose and palate coupled with vanilla and caramel aroma and flavor.
My husband enjoys whiskey so this was a must-see for us in wine country. They had several wines and spirits to sample. My husband tried the unaged rye, which he enjoyed but it wasn't something he would typically drink. I tried the moonshine and it was very smooth and tasty. Our favorite, though, was limoncello. It was incredibly smooth and very tasty. The tasting bar was very busy, so the staff member wasn't able to spend a great deal of time talking with us about what we were sampling. That was fine and didn't do anything to diminish our experience.
We apologize that our tasting room staff did not have a better interaction with you on your visit. We will continue to work with our staff to provide a more welcoming and educational experience for all of our visitors. Thank you so much for your feedback and we hope that you will visit us again!
I believe this was also the same place as Mazza Chautauqua Cellars and looking forward in coming back once they have the beer ready. David the wine guy was the best and highly recommend the place.
This was our first stop and we really enjoyed the wine and the spirits (the rye whiskey). The pear liquor was a little much for me. The Reisling was very good and another unique white that was made with rose. That was amazingly different. They also make a limochello which was not available to try but in stock to purchase. Also available are soaps made from wine, glasses and small gift items. The tasting fee is minimal at $3 for 6 samples. The service from Jessica was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Recommended stop for sure.
With all the wineries in the area, it was nice to have a stop at a distillery. Both the wine and the spirits were great! Will definitely be going again.
