This was my fourth visit to Hurd Orchards over the last 6 years. Even though it is a bit of a drive from the Buffalo area, it is well worth it. The themed lunches in the renovated barn, are always incredible, as are the pre-lunch talks given by the owners. My only complaint is that in the gift shop, the cashier has to walk quite a distance over to another area each time someone uses a credit card, and then I think they have dial up internet. It would seem to me that with all the technology out there, they could invest in a smart phone and use that to scan the cards. The wait for check out was so long, that we left without the goodies we wanted to buy!

The Hurd Orchards have much fresh fruit for sale and baked goods and flowers all grown on their farm in Northern NYS. Parking was easy and the old farmhouse and barn (barn is home to tasting) was a great respite on the way to Lake Ontario.

On West Ridge Road, NY, west of Brockport and east of Holley, is Hurd Orchards farm, where it has been for over 100 years. Growing gradually over the last few decades, it is still in the same family, and has retained the older elements while adding new ones. Now it consists of a market, an eat-in barn, orchards, and acres of berries and flowers. Aside from baskets of vegetables, berries, apples, apricots, peaches and pears, it offers its own preserves, jams, and home-made pies and cookies.A woman-owned farm, it has developed many features enjoyed by families. Pick strawberries, or raspberries, or a basket of apples or cherries. Children can do these with family, or participate in a structured outdoor farm living experience. The varied schedule includes floral design classes and themed luncheons, with food prepared from family recipes. Fall has tastings, where recipes are shared, and formal traditional teas. During the fall on Sat/Sun you can enjoy a casual 'drop-in' lunch of delicious chicken/pot pie in the barn.From May to September, the farm is available for private events, receptions or weddings. They provide food, flowers, space and dining with linen and silverware. Events can take place outdoors. Up to 75 guests can be seated in the beautiful barn, 150 with outdoor tents. Although closed when the snow falls (end of December thru April), gift packages are available through on-line ordering year-round. Market hours are: Wed 10-7, Thurs-Sun 10-5:30.
