herkimer home state historic site

This was a great stop after visiting Oriskany Battlefield. Revolutionary War hero, General Nicholas Herkimer, led the battle at Oriskany and was wounded early on in battle. He was taken to his home to recover and unfortunately died 10 days later in this home. Visiting his home was a great addition to visiting Oriskany. The home is only open Wed-Sun during the spring and the summer no matter what their website says so unfortunately we came on a day they were closed, but it was still a great experience. There is signage all over the grounds which brought the place alive. You can also walk down the path from the house to the Mohawk River which is beautiful.
