Having boarded my horses there prior to the newest management, I was treated to seeing Caumsett throughout all of the seasons! It is beautiful every time of year, including when it rains and you see the rain just sweep across the fields. Wonderful historic buildings. Amazing trails! All kinds of fabulous wildlife! Water views!! Must see!!
This is a beautiful state park north of Huntington. If is a nice bike ride as well as good for a walk. Great views of Long Island sound. Bring a picnic lunch.
This out of the way gem is a great place to go for short walk, a long walk, biking on paved roads or trails. It's great all year long and especially if you want to see great nature. I trained for a 60 mile walk using these trails. The buildings are beautiful. Hard to believe people really lived like this.
great walking hiking exploring. biking lovely xcountry trails. just wish the walkers wouldn't crush them!
There is nothing that you could possibly be looking for in a state park that you can't find here. We walked the trails on our first visit and knew we had to bring our bikes on future visits. Scattered people fishing. Never seen anything crowded - just people looking to become one with nature. Great for a solo vists to have some peace and quiet but also good for families to come and enjoy the great outdoors in a serene setting
This is a lovely place with some very interesting farm buildings. The summer sees lots of insects, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. There's plenty of parking space and plenty of places to walk. In summer there are ticks in the grass, so watch out :)
While traveling on West Neck Rd.to Caumsett State Parkthe waterview is breathtaking. You feel like your in up State NY. The rolling hills, the vast open spaces with few homes visiable. When you enter the park, the feeling of tranquility continues. They have approximately 3 miles of walking paved roads. As you pass the riding stables, you may leave the walkimng trail and venture for a mile down a dirt path to Long Island Sound. There are a privileged few that win a lottery so they can park and fish there. Please keep in mind there are preservationist that house injured birds until they can be returned to the wild.I do hope you enjoy the park as much as I do!
We go to Caumsett Park often. It is huge, tree lined, and has a wonderful path for bike riding and walking. There are horses there and paths for riding. There is ample parking and restrooms along the way. There are no concessions on the premises. If you want to unwind, get some exercise and be surrounded by nature, this is the place.
This was the 2nd time I visited the park, both in the fall. Great trails to walk or ride your bike. Bring a picnic and just relax and enjoy this beautiful park and the views from the manor. They also have gardens which I plan to go back in the spring. Great for families, couples, friends... Anyone looking for a frat day outdoors.
Try the twice around, total 6 mile walk. Or once around to get in 3 miles. Every season brings out a different beauty there. Only problem - the very fast bike riders, so stay in your path as you walk - that is important.
This is a wonderful park to walk the trails, walk the beach and take in the beauty of nature. Marshall Field certainly lived like a Lord of his Manor.
Great biking. My little one just started riding a 2 wheel bike this summer and has been the perfect place for him. So much fun!
If you are looking for a place to take a long walk through the woods and may or may not to end up on the shore, check out Caumsett. When I first started coming, there was no entrance fee but there is now. Get there before it opens to avoid the fee--a lot of people do. Also a great place to ride bikes.
I really don't see what the other reviewers do about this place.Nice walk but…. There was another walk that goes to the ocean, maybe that was nicer. Certainly not worth going to, unless you are in the area anyway.
Went on a lovely Sunday afternoon - lots of people riding bikes. View from the main house to the bay is beautiful. Osprey had built a nest in the chimney and was feeding the chick. Shame that the house is not open - does not look like there is anything left furniture wise - at least when you look through the window. Wish we had more time to explore the grounds but it was lovely.
