Buttermilk Falls in Hamilton County, NY is a delightful Adirondack attraction. If you are traveling on Route 28 through the Hamlet of Long Lake, it is a site not to be missed. A short detour onto North Point Road will get you there. It is not spectacular, but the setting is peaceful and pleasant. The volume of water varies depending on the time of year, but it is always worthy of a 15-20 minute stop.
See it during peak Fall colors. Wow. A short down and up walk over uneven ground and rock. I wouldn't do it in wet conditions.
Buttermilk Falls is one of the hidden gems of Long Lake. This is a beautiful place for a picnic or to just walk around and take some photos. It's a very easy hike and great for little ones or older people. Don't worry about climbing any mountains, here. The falls are beautiful any time of the year. Listen to the low roar of the falls. See the white spray of water hitting the rocks. Feel the droplets of water if you stand too close.Don't miss it. This is a nice place to visit.
Big reward for such a short hike in. I love this place and will continue to visit with my german shepherd every time I camp in the Adirondacks.
These falls were nice, but not as large as they looked in some photos (including mine!!!). They are conveniently located just a few minutes walk from the road. You really need to go below the falls to get the full effect.
Buttermilk Falls is easy to find and walk to. It is especially beautiful on a bright sunny day. A nice place to relax, listen to the water and maybe have a picnic.
We stopped here on the way to check out some kayak spots. Short distance away from the road and beautiful from all points.
I've always loved this place. Its got a very short trail from the road to the falls. There's a few picnic tables scattered in the woods. It's just a gorgeous place to sit and take it all in. The falls, the woods, just great. Photo ops very nice also.
Beautiful but if you are older and have problems with balance be very very careful and don't go on rocks if wet! And watch youngsters. I couldn't go to the bottom but husband did and it is gotgeous and such a nice drive to get there. but slipping and falling over happens, somebody drowned last week!
WWe've been coming to the Adirondacks for about 16 years, and we always stop by Buttermilk Falls for a nice picnic & swim. Our kids jump from the big rock at the bottom of the falls (I attached a photo so you can see where), and go swimming in the hole. They always wear life jackets, so please respect the water.
Very short hike in to a pretty falls. Rocks are very slippery when wet! There are a couple of picnic tables right at the falls.
Nice view and easy to get to just off of the main road. Worth going to see. The rocks can be slippery, so be careful. You can take a lunch and hike along the trail on both sides of the falls.
In my previous review of this amazing area, I warned of danger of climbing in and around the rocks. Unfortunatly, on 8/10/14, a young man from the Buffalo, NY area was apparently climbing in and around the boulders and rocks and slipped and fell into the falls and drowned. The Adirondack Park has hundreds of primitive places. It does the public well to remember that this Park is deemed "Forever Wild" and many places which could be jeopardous are not protected with fences or safety measures. This is part of the charm and attraction of the park - but also of the danger. Please use caution and read reviews of the areas you wish to visit.
This is a nice place to visit. Be careful on the rocks though; it can be difficult walking. Beautiful view of the falls.
Be sure and stop at these falls if you are anywhere near. The walk to the falls is quite easy so it's a good spot to see with children also. They'll love the wide, flat rocks for climbing and viewing. If you are a nature lover, you will love this spot.
