If you like spectacular scenery and you enjoy a little excitement, do not fail to take a sightseeing flight on Helms Aero Service in The Adirondack Hamlet of Long Lake.Autumn is my favorite time to ride in these pontoon planes, but I have enjoyed these flights in the Spring and Summer as well. I was passing through Long Lake with 2 friends heading back to Boston after a weekend in the mountains, and we were looking for an adventure. We remembered having driven through before that there were seaplanes parked along the main drag in Long Lake. Once we had seaplanes on our mind...we were determined. Not knowing what to expect, we pulled into town and approached the building for Helms. We were thrilled to find an affordable cost per person, and a relatively short wait to go up in a seaplane. The experience exceeded our expectations. Bill was our pilot - he was funny, knowledgeable and very accommodating. The couple who shared our ride with us was local, and told us that Bill had been piloting seaplanes for a long time (we could tell - he was an expert, nailed the landing and parking at the dock). He pointed out many interesting things, and took us over to the stunning Litchfield Castle (look it up). This was such a rare and memorable experience for my friends and me - I would highly recommend it. We were amazed at how seamless it was to just arrive and take a ride (not sure if it's always this easy). If you can go in the fall, do it - the views of the foliage were breathtaking! This was a truly memorable experience. Thank you, Bill!

no trip to Long Lake is complete without a seaplane ride with Helms. We've flown numerous times with Tom (and with his dad before him). Tom's knowledge of the area and his sense of humor make for a memorable experience every time.

In business for 2 generations, everyone knows that Helms is really the only way to go when booking a scenic seaplane ride in Long Lake. Tom is the Man, and for my money, the only game in town. My 82 year old mother, who is absolutely terrified of flying, actually doesn't think twice about going up with Tom (also having flown with Herb, his father, the founder of the business). A real Long Lake institution and a fabulous way to see the area and the High Peaks. Not to be missed!

My family, freinds and I have flown sightseeing trips and camping trips with three generations of the Helms family. The views are spectacular and Tom Helms knows his mountains better than anyone. If you camp or fish, he can steer you in the right direction. For a quick aerial tour of the region, take the 20-minute tour. Its out of this world. I suggest the High Peaks.

Professional service, and the Pilot has an endless knowledge of everything from above! Heck, even the Rolling Stones have flown with them! Will be back again! Te first flight for my nephew!

The guys that run Helms are really nice and down to earth. They are good historians and knowledgeable on the area and its landmarks. I've been in different seasons but if you are planning a trip, definitely go in the fall (mid Sept - early Oct).

My husband and I, along with our two young children took this ride last summer and wow....the best experience ever! The views are like nothing you can imagine, you get to experience Long Lake in a way not many have ever seen before, you really get to see what a true gem of beauty the area is. The flight was smooth, reasonably priced, the perfect length and the pilot was an older gentleman who was very friendly and knowledgable. Besides experiencing Long Lake by boat you must also try the Seaplane! My children were ages 5 & 10 and loved it. We took video from up there which is a nice sourvenier of our experience.

We stopped at Long Lake NYS on a day's drive through the Adirondack Mountains. Seeing 2 sea planes moored, I asked if they did short charter flighths - they did, and could go right way. What a fantastic experience - Bill the pilot was great, the views of lakes and fantastic fall colours were spectacular, including the Buttermilk Falls and beaver dams. And all this for a minium charge of $80 fort he 2 of us - incredible value for money also. We have sea planed before in The Maldives but still found this trip wonderful. The highlight of our 2 1/2 weks in New England - thanks guys, I wear the T-shirt with pride and very good memeories. Thoroughly recommended.
