I recently attended the two day school for trap shooting. A well run, organized school that emphasizes safety, fun & learning how to shoot trap. Each instructor, while having their own personalities, taught in the same consistent way. They were also aware of the student's physical ability to keep up or needed to rest a bit. The grounds are well maintained having a natural beauty to be enjoyed. I would definitely recommend Orvis Wingshoot School if you have any interest in trap. The employees were all friendly & professional at that the same time. Thank you Joe, John, Andy, Ben & Rick. My thanks to the rest of the staff.

They have top notch instructors and the sporting clays course is excellent. The atmosphere and experience can't be beat. I drive over an hour to shoot here every month.

Sandanona hosts Orvis Wingshooting and Fly Fishing Schools and has a world class Sporting Clays course open to the Public, otherwise it is a Private Upland Hunting Club. The pro shop exclusively offers premium Orvis sporting equipment and clothing.Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Corporate Events can be catered. Being affiliated with a premium sporting brand like Orvis comes at a premium price as well. The cost of ammunition can add up.

Spent the day at this years Game Fair and enjoyed it immensely. From the food, to the entertainment the day was spectacular! The ORVIS team was professional and full of hospitality. We didn't shoot but we toured the sporting clay course and it was everything I would have expected from and ORVIS run property. The trappers we met we very knowledgable of the course and how the stations played out, and although for this event they had a trapper at each station it would typically be that you would have a dedicated trapper at your side to act as a caddie and guide for the duration of your trek around the course (which was stunning in terms of layout). Every station was unique and challenging. Interestingly enough, because of how they designed the course, they can change the way the stations shoot in any number of ways allowing shooters an unbelievable variety of options to shoot and navigate the course. Whatever ORVIS touches turns to gold and Sandanona Shooting Grounds is a gem! If you are ever in NY or living in or around NYC look them up!

Incredibly skilled teaching instructors and warm friendly staff. Highly recommended for a outing with friends, family or corporate clients.

I shoot sporting clays here frequently. A bit pricey compared to Mid-Hudson over in New Paltz, but a much better and more challenging course. Great pro shop with Orvis supplies and equipment. Hunting and fly fishing are also available on the premises, as is a great wobble trap and skeet field.

I have been going here for about a decade and it just keeps getting better with yearly improvements. The staff is excellent, grounds spectacular and equipment second to none. The only downside is shooting anywhere else is a let down.

If you're interested in a world-class outdoor experience. This is it. Whether it's sporting clay shooting, fly fishing or duck/bird hunting, Orvis Sandanona has it all. All of the staff are pleasant and professional and happy to help no matter your skill level. The food is also pretty good as well. I've been here a few times now and can't recommend it enough if you're interested in learning how to shoot, or brushing up on your target/clay shooting. They also offer fly fishing instruction and then heading straight out to the stream... Overall a great experience and worth the ride from the city or if you're nearby just stop in.

I recommend the Orvis Fly Fishing School, particularly Orvis Sandnona Millbrook, NY. I had the pleasure and benefit of the instructor, Bob Meyen, who was meticulous in preparing and delivering and excellent 2 day course. It was quite clear that his knowledge of experience of more then half of century was acquired through sheer love of the sport and enjoyed equally educating others. I felt like he was teaching us as though we were his personal friend or family member. What I am most surprised about is how much he was able to teach in such a short 2 days. Fly fishing is new to me but I know that I now have the knowledge to build upon for my new found favorite hobby. I have Orvis and Bob to thank for this.

For years Sandanona has been a family tradition for the Friday after Thanksgiving. We totally ignore crowds, "Doorbuster" hype, and head the 77 miles from our home in Greenwich to this delightful spot for a round of shooting, followed by lunch. The treat starts with the drive itself; the Taconic State Parkway, though very slightly infested with lurking speed cops, is one of the loveliest roads in the Metro Area. The people at Sandanona are very pleasant to deal with; the trappers are themselves experienced shots so one can get many of the benefits of a 'lesson' while just shooting a round; and for the lazy or decrepit (like me) they have for a modest additional charge shooting carts (basically four-seater golf buggies with gun racks). A word of advice: if you go with a group, it's not a bad idea for one person to rent a buggie just to carry ammo, jackets removed as the day warms up, and other detritus. The course is lovely, matching nice surroundings with challenging shots. We don't just go on Black Friday; four of us shot on Monday last and also had lunch there which was very satisfactory - - true home cooking served by nice people. A day at Sandanona is not cheap, but if you're looking for a first class outing, it's a bargain.

My husband and I found Sandanona by accident while driving through Dutchess County, NY admiring the scenery. We went in and they gave me a mini lesson on the spot. The gentleman who instructed me was very nice and extremely helpful. I've never used a gun of any kind before, and he immediately took the fear factor out of it for me, and gave me confidence in handling the gun. I never realized that sport clay shooting is so much fun, and I can't wait to go back and take a full lesson and learn more about the sport! We wound up having lunch here too in the lodge. The food was very good. All the staff at Sandanona are very nice and welcoming, and they made me feel very comfortable as a woman in a typically male area. The other patrons at the shooting grounds were very pleasant too. Also, the grounds/setting is beautiful. I would definitely recommend a visit here if you sport shoot, or if you'd like to learn. They also have regular hunting and fly fishing available at Sandanona.

Beautiful Grounds, lots to do, the Game Fair is a great time for the family as well. Everything you would expect from Orvis.

This was my second visit. I wish it was closer to my residence. The staff is outstanding, very friendly and willing to do everything to make your visit pleasent. The grounds are well kept and a pleasure to go through. The shooting stands are clean and well organized. Every stand is different, and has gun racks, trash bins and bug spray. The guide was cooperative and was willing to follow your wants on how each station was pulled. The whole place is informal and friendly. Not cheap but the experience is worth it.

I have been shooting at Sandanona with friends for about 5 seasons now (October through March). Peggy, the manager, runs a terrific operation. As a beginner to sporting clays a few years back everyone was more than helpful, always going the extra mile. Now that I shoot regularly, I remain impressed by the overall quality of the trappers and continued variety and challenges available on the sporting clays course. Whether you are a beginner or expert, Sandanona will make you feel welcome. I am sure you will have a wonderful experience.

The teachers here have tons of patience. Make sure to call in advance especially on saturdays. It is the perfect place to learn to fly fish or shoot. There shop is worth a visit too.
