The cold weather during our visit forced us to inside visits. We came upon the Nassau County Museum in a beautiful park setting.While the museum does have a small collection if Tiffany paintings, most of it is given over the special exhibits. An extensive Chinese exhibition was very well placed and annotated. Items from the Frick collection were rare and exciting to see returned to the home in which some were collected. An engrossing and interesting collection. A room of art work by Gavin Rain was fascinating.

Nassau County Museum has some of the finest art exhibits in the World. The Chine Exhibit was beautiful and well persented. I must say, some years ago, they had a Fine Arts Competition that I won a First Prize, $500, Best in Show Award. It would be nice if they would reconsider having some Art Competitions in such a lovely environment in the future as they did in the past.The grounds are planted with Large Scale Sculptures of artists from around the world. Most seem to be permanent. They are very well placed and often relate to the environment where it is placed. I find those the best out door sculptures. While walking around you will find lovely hiking trails to enjoy the natural scenery of the lands that are truly magnificent. Have a great day!

Not only did I enjoy the China exhibit, but I also had a great time walking around the building and strolling around. Formerly a private Gold Coast estate, the grounds are lovely, the sculptures are delightful and well placed just off garden paths, and the mansion itself a Georgian Colonial gem.

The outside grounds are great for a nice fall wall in the garden.The museum is kept up well,with many volunteers throughout.the museums gift store has some nice items. The exhibits rotate during the year.

Even though the museum is very nice, what kept me coming here is the trails outside and the gardens. I used to bring my baby on his stroller for walks around the asphalt road. Now that he is older we love going into the woods and explore the trails.During the week, if you go to visit the grounds is not fee, but on the weekends you have to pay. To go into the museum it is a fee.

To avoid crowds on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I went to the Nassau County Museum of Art to see “China Then and Now.” (On view through March 8, 2015.) The exhibit includes a few ancient statues, a large collection of blue & white porcelains, beautiful ink paintings by Liu Dan, and examples of contemporary Chinese art. If you are in the area, it’s a pleasant way to spend an hour or two. The outdoor sculpture gallery and extensive grounds are perfect for a walk. But not for me, the afternoon I went to the museum the weather was cold and bleak!Before visiting, see the museum’s website for current and upcoming exhibitions.

The grounds are reason enough to visit this delightful gem from a time goneby....gorgeous sculptures dot the many acres of walking trails and the parking is free and ample. I am a fan of art museums and attend all their exhibits, most of them carefully organized and curated. I am simply amazed that so few people attend this cultural jewel....I never see parents with their children. I see children only when they are in a class excursion or when there are special events designed for children. Compared to museum admission charges in New York City, this architectural bijou offers a bargain.

This museum is very small, but the exhibits are excellent. There are interesting modern sculpture outside on the pretty grounds. Inside volunteers give tours of exhibits, if desired. There are always major traveling exhibits you would expect to find at larger museums. I have also heard the occasional lecture which are always excellent. I saw that another reviewer was disappointed because of the modern art focus. But, that must have been the particular exhibit that was showing when he visited. It isn't always a modern art display, it could be anything. If you like art, you will enjoy this stop.

Always wonderful exhibits in this small but well run museum with excellent volunteer docents. Gift shop has diverse selection of unusual objects.

In 1919 Henry Clay Frick of Pittsburgh and U.S.Steel fame, purchased this estate as a gift to his son and daughter in law. That’s what I was after: I wanted to see the mansion, especially since I knew there was a guided tour of the mansion on Saturdays. It is currently a park full with modern sculptures and the mansion houses the Nassau Museum of Art, a big name for a very limited collection of very mediocre modern art. Photorealism in the 1970s is a current exhibit of paintings realistic enough to be taken for photographs. It is organized by the Yale Art Gallery but it is very limited. As to the tour of the mansion, I did not stay for it, since I realized there was nothing left of those times: except for the few pieces of truly lamentable art, the mansion was empty. Childs Clay, not unlike many babies born with a silver spoon, was quite an avid sportsmen, to quote the brochure they gave me, and enjoyed polo, tennis, golf and skiing. He even had his own snow making machine on the premises. The park is lovely to walk through but most of the outdoor sculptures I found quite ugly, with few exceptions. Admission is 10 bucks. Total waste. Save your money and go see the Frick collection in Manhattan where Frick senior lived after he got out of Pittsburgh to avoid death threats and more nonsense due to his fights with organized labor. And if you find yourselves in Pittsburgh, make a note to go see the Pittsburgh mansion and enjoy it, it’s a work of art. It also houses his antique cars collection.

Forty-five minutes from the museum capitol of the world is another spot for those local residents who don't want the fuss or expense of schlepping into Manhattan when they have the urge for a museum experience. Capitalizing on this need, the Nassau County Museum of Art has a certain Manhattanesque pretentiousness. Exhibits feature big names like Andy Warhol and Peter Max, and the docents exude a bit of snootiness, unwarranted by what is most often second-tier content. Housed in the former Frick summer "cottage", the two story museum also features the work of local artists. It has a very nice sculpture garden, a simple cafeteria and a great gift shop. Membership is a good option if you plan to attend more than twice a year. A great rainy day activity, but in the event, stick to the pathways and avoid the soggy front lawn.

Have been here when the temporary exhibits were great, and at other times when they were more ordinary. Beautiful grounds and convenient. Permanent exhibits are generally not as interesting as the temporary ones. Nice, low key museum

This was my initial visit. I wandered the extensive grounds: the grounds contain 20 or so sculptures. A few were fascinating, some interesting and some I just didn't get. Perhaps my favorite work was the oddly named "Wood Duck." A large, hanging metal disc that reflect it's image in the pond above which it hands. (Photo below). Inside you move through through rooms and along hallways displaying the artists' works. "Photo Realism" was one of the exhibits. Interesting in it's attempt to make photographic reality super real by transforming the images into differing mediums. It is a small museum, the works nicely presented and the staff friendly and engaging. It is only in relation to the museums of NYC that the Nassau Museum only gets three stars.

The Nassau County Art Museum is a wonderful, small art museum located in Roslyn, NY. It is important to visit the website to see what exhibit is on display, because it will likely take up most of the exhibit space. My daughter and I have made many trips here through the years and have made wonderful memories. It is great for young children, because you can get through the museum in a relatively short amount of time. There are also beautiful grounds with sculptures to walk around and enjoy. I would also check out their jack-o-lantern event in the Fall, it is pretty cool to see hundreds of cut out and lit jack-o-lanterns spread out along the grounds.

Nassau County Museum is a lovely small museum that is easy to navigate. The exhibits are well chosen with knowledgeable docents giving tours often. The ground are lovely and fun to walk around with lots of sculpture pieces spread out throughout.
