We were so surprised to the amazing job the musketeers had done restoring this fortified home. We had the the good fortune of having David Klock, seven times great-grandson of Johan-Jost Klock as our tour guide. There is some much to see. There is an actual working blacksmith shop on site. The actual Klock one room school house. An authentic relocated Dutch barn on the old foundation of the original, (which was burned by the British and Indians). There is a gift shop with linens made on site. The real gem is the Klock homestead. We expected this visit be be about 45 minutes to an hour and ended up staying 2 - 1/2 hours. This attraction can accommodate buses.

For those interested in the early history of the united states what better place to start than a rural upstate New York fort. In this case a fortified farm house which served as a trading post and place of refuge during the French and Indian war! Built in 1750 with 2 foot thick stone walls with gun ports so the settlers inside could fire their muskets outside! Forts like this enabled around 5 thousand settlers to remain in the Mohawk Valley while over 10 thousand had fled at the start of the War. The site is well staffed with people with knowledge of the history of the times, and dressed in the frontier dress of the period to guide you through the site and its artifacts to make you visit vary informative and enjoyable !
