Hard to believe you are still in nyc when you pick a trail and go. Any season any time of year is a good time to enjoy the greenbelt. Deer a plenty, red tail hawks. What will you discover.
Love to hike in the peace and quiet, you forget that you are in New York City! It's the only place on Staten Island you won't hear traffic or expressway sounds!
Follow trails in the Greenbelt and enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature. You need a car to get there, but parking is limited.
Located in the Hills of Staten Island, this is a wonderful park to hike. Many trails to explore all Staten Island has to offer. Off the beaten path but worth the trip
Within five minutes you feel like you are in the mountains in upstate New York. Beautiful, clean, quiet and the trails are well marked before dusk. Of course you are not allowed to unleash your dog in NYC but I always do when I don't hear anyone (she is a great dog) and nothing like seeing her run free. One of my stress relief places in NYC
I came here with my nine and eleven year old daughters. We all enjoyed following the trails (they're color designated with spray paint or small signs on the trees as you walk). I wanted to make it to Moses' Mountain but didn't want to go too far with the kids.
I went to summer camp in High Rock Park for years when I was younger. I had so much fun exploring the forest, doing activities, and there were cabins and buildings to keep us occupied. My favorite part as a child was the birch trees that we would pick and chew on the branches. Just like root beer! Now older, this is a great place to go for a run or just to walk around and enjoy the nature.
This is a truly wonderful place to feel as if you have gotten away from the big city and entered nature's serene vista! A real nice area to walk through when the weather gets warmer!
What a gem; I come here as often as I can. It's a wonderful, unspoiled woodland with lots of trails. Just be careful to keep track of your wanderings as it is easy to get lost here.
My boyfried at the time wanted to take me to this park for he always went there as a little boy. It had trails to follow and was didn't seem that noticable from the highway which gave it great privacy. We enjoyed the smaill sreams throughout the park and the species that grew in it.
As I had said before for other Staten Island locations. If you are local then may be going over there once in a few years is OK, but there is really nothing special to see and do over there.
You can't believe your on Staten Island!! Just the place if you need a break from the crazyness.Lots of trails to explore and tranquil suroundings
It is very easy to forget you are still in the five boroughs when you are here. Very peaceful greenery; I find it reminiscent of woods I've been to upstate.
If u enjoy nature, animals, sights, and some history, come and explore the Greenbelt of S.I. I've been biking, and hiking these woods for over 20 years. If you want to leave the city for a while with out leaving the city, you must come here. There are some nice vistas, swamps, ponds, streams, tall hills, and all different types of vegetation. Go for it!
I believe this is the best hike on Staten Island. Great to take the kids along as well. It feels so remote and distant from the hustle and bustle and crazy traffic that is the middle of Staten Island.
