My rafting trip down the 17 mile Hudson River Gorge was scheduled with the Wild Waters Outdoor Center based at The Glen Lodge B&B just northwest of Warrensburg, NY. This 17 mile trip is invisable by road for most of it and the wilderness of the Adirondack's is exposed only by raft. The views of the countryside are spectacular and the white water rafting, breathtaking! There are times when the river runs so fast your entire focus is on getting through the rapids. The excellent rafting guides, not only guided us to safety, they fed us in route. This adventure can be accomplished in a day but I added the luxury of staying overnight at the Glen Lodge and having breakfast in the morning at the lodge. Outstanding! I highly recommend it for people who enjoy an adventure of a lifetime with just a couple of days to do it in.
This trip was fantastic. Guides were very experienced. September is a bit cool, but worth it for the lack of crowds.
My boyfriend and I went on the white water rafting trip since we stayed at the Glen Lodge. They offer a reasonable rafting package if you stay two nights at their adorable mountain lodge. We had such a fun filled day with our tour guide Alex. He provided us with an exciting day on the rapids! Wild Waters is an organized group that provides experienced guides in each raft as well as a tasty lunch and delicious dinner once we returned from rafting! Thank you for a fun filled day. Looking forward to bringing our friends next time!
My family and I did the Sacandaga run the day before. It was too short so we decided to do the Hudson for 17 miles. We decided on Wild Waters Outdoor Center. Great choice. We had a raft of 8 with another family. The rapids were unbelievable. A thrill a minute. Our guide was a lady (Becka) and at first I was concerned, but she was fantastic. She was informative the whole trip and she was game for anything we wanted to do. She actually flipped out of the raft on one of the first rapids but was quickly picked up by one of the other rafts and returned to us. That in itself got everyone excited. All the guides were funny and worked together as a team. They were a well oiled machine. The trip was one adventure after another. What a ride. Half way down we stopped for lunch. It consist of sandwiches and some cookie snacks. More than enough for all. Dinner at the end of the trip was salad and a chicken pasta dish or a vegetarian rice dish. I must admit it was very good. My kids actually went back for more which really surprised me. Compliments to the cook. All in all a thrilling time. We will be back for more. I would definitely recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
My husband and I went with our two kids ages 10 and 12 for the 17 mile, all day adventure. We were greeted right away by friend staff who guided us through check-in and waivers. The ride to the drop off site was entertaining and quick and also a review of some safety information. Our guide Collin was amazing. He guided us away from the rocks and into the most amazing waves and rapids!! Even when I intentionally/accidentally? Fell out of the boat he kept up the good spirits. Although there is not much wildlife to look at along the river, the natural scenery is breathtaking. We saw lots of other companies along the way and I have to say ours seemed the most professional - even down to the way they unloaded/loaded the boats to the bus. We did t stay for dinner but the day as a whole was amazing!!
My friends and I had such an amazing experience with Wild Waters last summer, that we returned this past weekend. Im very impressed with the level of professionalism; Everyone representing this company operates at such a pleasant and professional manner. The guides are all funny, smart, fun and simply a pleasure to be around. Doug, the owner, was so accommodating. He has excellent communication skills and an absolute delight to deal with. One can't help but to completely feel so comfortable and welcomed. White water rafting with this particular group of guides in highly recommended, because these guides are very experienced, professional, adventurous- yet safe and smart about it. They know the landscape of the entire 17 miles down the Indian and Hudson Rivers, inside and out! The guides will do some really cool tricks while rafting.. They will tell us when to row- Moments when we didn't need to row, we could just look up, enjoy the beautiful scenery.Once you're done rafting, we go back to the base for dinner. The chef who makes the dinner is pretty impressive. His salads are delicious, fresh and good quality. He makes a pasta dish w meat, and a vegetarian dish. They're always both so delicious!! The photographer snapped really awesome photos of us. He burned a CD of both of our rafts on the spot.. The photos are excellent quality and such a deal for the reasonable price. These guys are extremely wonderful and such a delight to deal with.. We will return to this place every summer and continue to recommend them.
Great little place to get away ! The b&b itself was 20-25 min from lake George so it's close enough to the excitement but far away from all the tourists. Pros: The lodge itself is run by Doug ,his wife Nancy, and their amazing staff. Everyone was pleasant and happy to suggest activities and or restaurants to eat. The rooms are just the right size for two people and are crafted with wood furniture and warm quilts. The bathrooms are clean and the water pressure was normal. Cons: every place has them but thankfully these are minor! the beds are on the firmer side, there is no tv, and the fans could use a dusting. See ? Not so bad! The first day here we went out on lake George for a lunch boat tour , played some mini golf, walked the shops, and checked in between 3-6 which is hotel policy. the next day we had a hot breakfast at 8am which included French toast, bacon and fresh eggs from the chickens (very yummy) and off we went to white water raft. Whitewater rafting experience : category 3&4 Our guide was T and in our opinion the best !!! he was incredibly knowledgable about the surrounding area and talked a good majority of trip about the lakes and great hiking /camping spots long the river. He made sure we were safe, informed us of what we were going to do before we hit the fast rapids and made sure everyone had a good time. We all got wet and because the sun was out the water was cool but not freezing. Overall it was a great weekend and I would recommend this b&b and it's white water rafting package to anyone who seeks adventure and awesome people!!A huge thank you to Doug, Nancy and his staff we will definitely be coming back !!
We were greeted when we pulled in. We signed our forms, grabbed our equipment and off we went! Matt (our guide) gave an entertaining and informative information lesson on the ride to the drop in point. Once on Matt's raft and in the river, sheer bliss ensued. Matt told us all about the river, the rapids we were about to hit and made sure we had lots of fun. We laughed the entire way down the 17 mile river. Once our amazing day came to a close on the river, we boarded the buses back to home base. We opted to stay right there at the B&B attached and it was amazing! We showered quick and enjoyed time with our new friends. I will definitely be back! Thanks Matt!
Our family of four went rafting on Aug 12, 2014 and had a great time !! The weather was slightly overcast, but the guides still made the trip a lot of fun. Justin was our guide and he was engaging and skilled. Lunch and dinner were both included. We did not really expect much for dinner, but it turned out to be delicious ... pasta, bread, salad, and watermelon.Would highly recommend !!!!
It was definitely worth it's value, especially compared to other rafting places nearby. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Did not fall in and felt very safe, even as a beginner participant.
For us, the summers typically involve rafting. We're not rafting geeks, but seem to have done our fair share: NC, Oregon, and now NY. We stay around the level 3's as it is my wife and daughter as well. This was a 17 mi. trip with lunch. The guide we had (Matt) was by far the best guide we've ever had. Not only knowledgeable, but personable and man was he talented. Really put the icing on the cake when he let my 19 yr old 'guide' the ship for awhile. The whole crew and operation was top notch. I told them the mark of a consientious ownership group is when the life preservers don't stink! They take pride in their operation, equipment and make every effort to make it a great afternoon. By the way the ride to the drop off point was very entertaining. Some of the guides could do stand up.
We had a fantastic trip down the Indian and Hudson Rivers. Upon checking in, it was recommended that we get wetsuit tops ($5 each and VERY much appreciated) and sunglasses straps ($6 and unnecessary). Our guide, Lucy, was insightful and funny and took the time to find out whether we want to get into splash fights, swimming areas, etc... The river was about 4 feet and had class 3 & 4 rapids that were fun and challenging for us and our teenage girls. We arrived at 8:30 and were worn out and well-fed by the time we got back on the road around 4:15. This was a great family activity to end our two-week vacation.
Just a great, fun day! Wild Waters did a terrific job. If you're doing the Hudson Gorge, you'll need to be there around 8:30 to check in and get outfitted. We rented wetsuit tops for $5 ea. Water was about 3.5 feet, but we had a great ride. You'll hit the water around 10, lunch at noon, and take out around 3PM. Clean changing rooms and showers. Dinner is included. Pasta and salad. Our guide was Lucy. She was wonderful. We hit the line most of the time and she had very interesting stories of the river and surrounding areas. She knew her stuff. BTW, if you ever see a rubber ducky floating in the river, pull it up...she's under it :)We'll be going back for sure!Highly recommended.
We had an excellent time white water rafting. Our Guide, T, guided us safely after he evaluated our level of rafting. We had children with us, ages 12 and 15, who were safe during the trip. They were allowed to swim and jump off of a rock when the water was calm. He explained each part of the Hudson before we got there so we knew what to expect. You should not miss this on your visit to the area.
Wonderful, fun, and safe. We did the all day Hudson package. Our guide "T" was great at judging what the people in the boat wanted to do. We didn't want to swim, we wanted to experience rafting and white water to the fullest. In addition our guide pointed out the constant natural features like rock formations, water falls and totally enhanced our day. Very professional team that made it the most fun I have had in a very long time.
