For the past 24 years our familys have been going to Ridin-Hy ranch and have seen many changes with so many improvements threw the years. We started as a family get away with about 15 of us which just so happened to be the Halloween weekend , to this day most of us and many friends still make it our family weekend vacation, now that our children are grown and children of there own we still enjoying the beautiful friendly, hospitable family owned ranch located in the adirondack mountains with great staff that makes your stay a pleasant and a memorable one. The food is three meals a day all you can eat with coffee, hot chocolate and snack cakes available all day. The property is clean and well kept up along with the rooms and cabins, everything is in short walking distance to the main lodge. Fun for the whole family with many activities offered both day and night with a posting each day on the board. The horseback riding is all day year round from beginners to experts pony rides for the kids on well trained horses with lessons offered if needed. Some of the recreations offered are fishing , boating, skiing both water and snow, ice skating, sledding and tubbing, hay and sleigh rides, hikes to the castle, rodeo's in the summer months theres a brand new reck center were the kids can go and play basket ball or the younger with the bouncy house, also is a gym and a massage room. There are many special event themed weekends with one of our favorit being Halloween weekend. If you choose you can decorate your rooms or cabin theres trick or treating for the children to each cabin candy supplyed by the ranch, halloween costume contest for adults and children, hay rides to the pumpkin patch and fun activities like arts and crafts in the ski lodge. The pool is big and heated along with a nice relaxing dip in the jacuzzi. To end the evening you can choose to have a nice cocktail at the bar located in the main lodge or just sit and relax by the fire.Sleep QualityCleanlinessServiceAsk MaryAnn H about Ridin-Hy Ranch ResortThis review is the subjective opinion of a TripAdvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
Ridin Hy is by far the best local resort that I have every stayed at. I loved it so much the first time, 6 years ago, that I keep going back with more people every year. I can not stop spreading the word about the resort. The family really knows what they are doing and could not do it any better! I return every May for a "girls weekend" and I go every other year as a couples weekend. I do not bring children with me, but there are children there having a blast also. I have friends that bring their grandkids and they love it! Fun for all! The next time you are looking for a great place to vacation and not to far from where you live, if you are from CNY, Ridin Hy is it. Yeehaw!!
The family and staff work very hard to please everyone and make our weekend really relaxing and memorable. Since I was the only one to sign up for experience, a staff member and I went for a accelerating ride.
I went to the Ranch last january 2014 with my wife, some friends with kids and my three year old twin girls. I enjoyed the Ranch experience. The staff were mostly very nice and helpful. The room was just right with nice views over the lake.Unfortunately we only had one good day out of two as everything turned to freezing rain on Saturday and we could not leave the lodge. The food was O.K, mostly, however on Friday night my Chicken Kiev was definitely from the frozen food section of a local store. Not quite the fresh home cooking advertised! i was dissapointed. However they made up for that with a very nice fresh food all you can eat buffet on saturday night.Breakfast was good, and staff were helpful in the lodge. The horse ride was slow, boring and dissapointing in my opinion. There was no attempt from the two ranch riders to interact with us in any way ,maybe a little history or small talk about riding would have been nice and i was rudely told to put my camera away when i tried to get a picture at the end especially when there was no advisement prior of the rules about cameras and it caught me off guard and i was embarrassed. I felt like a scolded child and i was looking forward to the horse riding. Not impressed there! i expected a more friendly approach from the horse handlers. Are not cowboys and country peolple supposed to be friendly? but they were cold i thought. Also the snow mobile staff were not so friendly and they seemed to not want to be there. All in all dont expect alot and just enjoy the ranch and its amenities. I think in future i might prefer a summer stay there if i return.
A great all inclusive family vacation. The cowboys/cowgirls are really fantastic with all levels. Lessons are included, so even newbies can feel really comfortable before riding out on a trail. The meals are very good...lots of good home cooking. Don't expect gourmet. Excellent waitstaff. Avoid staying at the main lodge if you turn in early. Weekend bands in the bar, plus guests hanging out, make it difficult to sleep.
We haven't been to Ridin Hy for about 7 years since the grandchildren were little. Now they are adults. I was hoping it was still as nice as we remembered. Surprise, it was even better. It was so well kept and they had added a few things. We had perfect weather 60-70, sunny, breezy. There is so much to do, you could be busy all day, and the young people were. It is also a great place to just sit and relax and watch what is going on. You won't go hungry and the Saturday night buffet is worth the trip alone. The staff is great and everyone is so helpful and friendly. You can't find anywhere to go for such a nice weekend for the price. And, if you ride the horses, be sure to check out Ryan, the perfect cowboy.
This is a beautiful ranch resort, but we were only there for their rodeo one night. Since the kids had never been to a rodeo, this one was good. It did not have any bucking bronco or bull riding events. We did see calf roping, barrel racing, steer roping. Bring a sweatshirt. It gets cool there in the evening.
Just returned from my 1st time here Fri-Sun. This place truly has something for everyone, reasonably priced for what is included. I found the staff to be very nice and very accomodating. It is a laid back environment where no one rushes you. I stayed in a large house with 12 other people. We had a lovely view of the lake and found the quarters to be quite satisfactory. The horses appeared to be well trained, behaved and cared for-very important. They catered to all levels of riders including people with special needs. If you are looking for a place to have a family reunion this would be great. Indoor activities available if weather is bad and different kind of lodging options as well. It is also a fun place to go with a group of friends.I wore sneakers for riding and that was adequate, a pair of gloves for early morning riding was good as it was still chilly. Bring a bathing suit for the indoor pool and hot tub. I brought a beach towel for use there. Our group also brought our own wine and snacks for in-between meals. I never felt a need for the snacks-lots of good food. Make sure you bring a camera although I understand there is a professional at some point taking pictures you can buy. It may be during high season as this option did not exist this past w/e.There is kayaking, paddle boats, basketball, tennis, wagon rides, hikes to name a few options. A new building that houses an indoor basketball court will also soon offer manicures/pedicures and massages.
Service was horrible, room was awful... plus the bar was terrible and the owner of the place was a total jerk. Don't waste your money on this dump.
Fun place to stop by without having to stay there overnight and it's kid friendly. There is always some fun activity or event going on or just stop by for a drink at the bar.
My first visit in oct. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got there just as lunch was ending and they whisked us into the dining hall and made sure we were fed! Food was great, service fast and efficient. All food included in the nightly rate. Food choices were great also, something for everyone. Good ol' home cooking type menu. Our room was clean and comfy. We had bad weather on day #2 when we planned to do trail ride, but kept ourselves busy with the inside activities and playing some card games in our room. The indoor pool and hot tub were big hits!! Finally got to trail ride on the day we were leaving. They let us stay so we could get the ride in before we had to head out! Went out of their way to make sure we got to do what we came up for..even though the weather isn't their fault! I'd return a month earlier since we like to kayak and paddle, so the October chill was a bit too much. Our cowgirl guide was awesome. She made sure we felt comfortable as we were new riders. I'd definitely come back with my family/friends as would like to ride again as well as do the hike to the castle (?) ruins nearby. If you are into winter sports, looks like an awesome spot too. Snowmobile trails (not sure if they have the snowmobiles there or not) and skiing and tubing hill.Plenty to do in surrounding Lake George area also.
Beautiful location, plenty of horses and trails to choose from, simple food prepared well, and well organized activities make for a great stay.Rooms are simple and clean - but you are going to spend most of your time outdoors.Especially enjoyed the music, outdoor movies, scavanger hunt, fishing and of course horseback riding.Waiters & waitresses are great, horse staff (cowboys) were very helpful and knowledgeable.
We decided to take a spring break vacation this year instead of a summer vacation, we went to Ridin Hy, we will now be returning yearly for our spring break! My daughter who is 9 said "Mom this is the best vacation ever, way better than an amusement park"! I was terrified of horses but because of my daughter's love to ride we decided to take the trip. By the end of our stay I was enjoying riding and we all had an amazing time! There are so many things to do that my daughter never once asked where the tv in the room was (there is definitely no need for tv's in rooms). The meals were excellent and plentiful, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the entire ranch was very clean, and the scenery is breath taking. We were all very sad when it was time to leave. We had quality family time and enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning!
The staff is amazing. The location is perfect. The price is right. A weekend at the ranch has something for everyone.
