Out of the four wineries in Warwick, I think I enjoyed Applewood's wines the most. They have a very wide variety for such a small place. With that being said, there are very few places to sit. It is VERY small. Another place that is worth visiting if you are hitting the wineries in Warwick, however for better accommodation definitely go to Warwick Valley Winery.
This winery has a nice selection of wine, but that is about it unless you go on a special day. There is a limited menu at the snack bar and limited sitting.
Visited the applewood orchard and winery last month. Nice drive , ample parking . We went on a weekend which was very crowded so get there early. I was a little disappointed with the orchard . The trees did not have any apples except at the top which we couldn't reach. There was a whole section of the orchard closed off but perhaps it opened later in the season. We couldn't access the pumpkin patch. On the up side beautiful place to have a picnic ,wine taste and spend a peaceful day ! Make sure to pick up some donuts and visit the store to get some organic honey and jam!!
We went on a Friday in early October, it wasn't crowded at all. They are dog friendly too, so our dog came along. We walked all around the orchard, it's a big place, and found tons of apples. It was nice to just sit in the shade and eat an apple. The people working there were very friendly. There's no fee for parking or entry, you just pay for the apple you pick. We got a huge bag full of apples. The donuts were delicious! Didn't try the wine, maybe next time.
Excellent place to do some unusual activity like apple picking. the place is huge and had a lot apples, and other products. over the weekend you can enjoy other activities for kids.driving in and out from New York City is very nice since we can enjoy the foliage and having a relaxing driving experience.Telephone: (845) 986-1058Address: Masker Orchards 45 Ball Road Warwick, NY 10990
This is a pleasant enough place, but there are so many beautiful wineries around the area - it just doesn't rank up there with the others. They do have a nice patio and on many weekends live entertainment. It is worth the visit, but not if you are looking for something special.
Received a bottle of Applewood Wine as a gift...my husband really enjoyed it (it was a sweet dessert wine; not generally what I would drink). We dropped in for a tasting and we both found wines to our liking. During the warmer months, I am told that there is entertainment on Saturdays; we are looking forward to returning. Wine tasting is $6 per person for 5 selections. Oddly, this is the first winery we have been to that does not include the wine glass with the tasting. Not a big deal; just unusual. I seemed to enjoy their whites more so than their reds. We purchased a couple of bottles of each to bring home. We will be back!
We went here for the first time today and despite them having almost NO apples left, they were STILL selling bags for picking. We complained to one of the men in charge who blamed it on us for going to the wrong part of the orchard---saying the part we were in is closed and blocked off. This obviously wasn't true as we were not the only family in that section of he orchard; there were many. He also said if we had stood online for the tractor ride, we would have been taken to where they still had apples. First, there was no line. Second, none of the employees told us there was a tractor, nor were there any signs. And third, he once again blamed us. We ended up walking to where there were "apples." I use that term very lightly. We came home with a half bag of crab apples that we had to pay for and are not edible. On our way back to the car, we waited on line for their popular donuts...only to find out there were none left. Fortunately, we found out before waiting 15 minutes on line...only because we heard someone else on line say it when that poor sap had ended up waiting. It was probably his fault though, for not noticing that he line was not as long as it had been earlier. I won't be back to Applewood Orchard and there is no way I could recommend it to anyone based upon this experience and the unprofessional behavior of the man running the show.
Took family today and wandered around looking for apples until we came upon someone in a truck who told us this area was closed and we should have followed the power lines and taken the tractor ride to the area that is open. There was no one nor any signs around to tell us an area was closed (because of no apples left) nor was there a sign about a tractor ride. We saw dozens of people in this area wandering around with empty bags. When I mentioned this a second time to the man taking our money, he had no idea what I was talking about and could care less. I will not return to this place, not when there are dozen of apple orchards around.
I'm just reviewing the orchard. I haven't gone to the winery. Originally being from NYC I didn't realize just how many orchards there are up here in Orange County. This is a nice orchard but touristy. Everything is pricey. It's not worth it. There are many other orchards around. Check them out.
Years ago, each September my friends and I would pack up a lunch and make the drive up to Sugar Loaf, NY. With little or no traffic we could get there in about an hour and a half.On the weekends there are crowds, but there is music and the smell of apple cider donuts cooking wafting through the air. A truck and wagon will also drive you to the top of the orchard. There is a little store that sells some packaged items and some fresh vegetables and pre-picked apples, as well as buy your bag for picking your own apples. After many years I returned to Applewood, this time on a Friday. It was virtually empty and unfortunately they were out of donuts for the day! However it was so peaceful and relaxed. Applewood isn't located near a main road, so you can take in the tranquility. Walking though the beautiful orchard there are tons of trees loaded with apples ready for the picking. Plus the apples are delicious. It was just as I had remembered it and I was happy to be back.
I first visited Applewood Winery about 1 1/2 yeras ago. Wine tasting is informative and fun. I joined the Wino Club, which gets you free tastings and a 15% discount on purchases. My favorfites are OBR, (Oak Barrel Reserve), which is produced in limited quatntities. I am awaiting a new batch which I will get a case so I have an ample stock. Also enjoy the International Red and Cav Franc.
Love this place since first time there last year that I found the info online. Kids had a great time today picking Macintosh and Cortland apples, eating apple donuts and having their face painting. People an also bring their snacks and take their time in the tables having fun and peaceful time with life music and family. LOVE it! We also managed to do the wine tasting bringing the blackberry wine + Cabernet franc home ( I will be back for the Pumpkin cider- delicious!) and we are planing to o back for more soon!!!
This was one of the wineries on the list during a weekend getaway with my girlfriends. Located next to their apple orchard, this place has some pretty good hard apple cider. The wine tasting was $6 and we got to try 5 different wines of our choice. Next to the tasting room they have food available for purchase. There are plenty of places to sit and drink; they even have chilled bottles of wine for purchase. There was a band playing on the day we went, which was nice.
It was a gorgeous August day and my husband and I wanted to take a ride with the top down. Since we hadn't gone in that direction before we thought we'd try this out. What a nice day. The place is really a lot of fun. Good food (even though the line was about 1/2 hour). Great live music. Some vendors. Lots of people just relaxing with families and lots of puppies. We did the $5 wine tasting. While we didn't actually like many of the wines there were a couple of winners. But for the price you can't beat it (and you get to keep the glass.). Just a fun day out, that I recommend.
