I am not a great skier. I am by no means. This place is too small for even someone like me. I tend to stick to greens/blues, and I ran out of choices of trails to go on fairly quickly. It still was fun working on my technique, but it's probably better to drive the extra half hour/hour to go to a much bigger place with more variety. Despite being a weekend, rentals and lift lines were very quick, even as the day went on. I was quite pleased with this. It was a great place to brush up on my skills, having not skied for four years, but I think I will travel somewhere further next time. Like I said, I am by no means a great skier, and at the start I could barely go down the green. I know I troubled people for a little bit, but I decided to learn from my mistakes and practice on the bunny hill. When I was finally ready to go back down the greens, there are literally 10 year old newbies standing in the middle of the mountain and me not being a good skier, I have to ski around them and I did a face plant. Oh well. Good practice at least. It was a good mountain to practice on, but I would not visit here again unless I was with other beginners (E.g family members etc.) Still not a bad place, but I wouldn't come here again as it is too small. The thing I did like though is that it was very close to NYC.

We've been going to Tuxedo Ridge with our ski club for a few years now. This year the club decided to give Mt. Peter a try. Yes there's a couple more trails and the elevation on two of them are higher but... Last Friday night a man came up to our table we were sitting in an enclosed small room off the cafeteria and a man came up to our table exploding in anger and muttering something about how "we can't do this." We very very calmly asked him what he was talking about and kept shaking and sputtering you can't do this. Now mind you usually on a friday nite there are close to fifty buses in the parking lot and no place to accomodate this amount people... the kids (not there fault) put there oversized bags on top and underneath every table avaiable then leave and go skiing. there is a buliding at the bottom of the hill filled with picnic tables and in the cafeteria is small and the same. The area we were in is slightly more civilized. That night was a slower night there were empty tables in that room and our three tables were a part but together. There were also five men at another table not skiing... We all have season passes... afer this man left another young girl came into the room sweating and very angry pushing things around. We had no explanation...When I emailed them back and forth the said they'd review the video(who has video at a family ski house) I was thrilled because clearly we had done nothing wrong. The email I got back was " we reviewed the video and you can mail your season pass back to us and upon receipt we will refund your last two days". No apology .... My 11 year old was very upset to begin with because he and his very well behaved buddy were there to witness the verbal assault..... There's something very very wrong up there not worth the drive or the stress .l.. Tuxedo Ridge we'll see you Friday. We miss the comfort the quality of food and every member of your amazing staff!

Visiting Mount Peter for the first time today with my two kids. Parking lot is full of mud, base has no clear directions, ticket and rental purchase area is in a shed, get to rental you have to walk through mud again, received multiple mis-communications from staff, overpriced lessons for kids, lodge is small.... Dont bother, just drive a few more miles to Mountain Creek or other ski resorts in the area. The Bergen county ski resort for kids and family is better than this.

Just visited yesterday with my 6, 12 and 13 year old children and we had a great time. Most impressive was the quality of the man made snow. I was informed that new guns were purchased last year and the results were impressive. The staff could not be friendlier, the terrain offers some nice variety but not too overwhelming for a dad watching after 3 beginner/intermediate skiers. Price is comparable but experience better than other local family mountains. Certainly we will return.

nice place to get in some practice runs, but it can be a bit boring if you are used to larger places. If your kids ski and you don't -- great place because they can roam the area and still be close to the base. Lines can be long because the two real lifts they have are very very slow. Go early if you can. Ski racing program is legendary -- and if you are willing to commit the time -- it is great.

Well-run, Family owned ski area that really loves running a ski area. Good facilities, all trails lead to central area so impossible to get lost....once you've been there a few times, it's also safe enough to give your learning kids a little rope to improve on their own.

My kids skied here for years. The slopes are a good sizes for beginner to an average skier. The people who work there are always willing to help. Very good family fun or a great date

If you're looking for an accessible quick from the city, clean, fun, professional experience....go here. Better, i.e. longer than Campgaw, not in the woods like Sterling Forest, with a great valley view, and not as crowded and akwardly arranged with long walks as Vernon Valley. Yes its not a huge long run, but has some steepness for a few turns, is perfectly groomed, sometimes has a mogul run, an expert and friendly staff, and very clean bathrooms.Come during the week, and you'll go top to bottom countless times, without a lift wait. Staff always has a few fun words, and hold the gondola seat for you...! What else can you want...?(PS: I have skied in many places, and just returned from a big mountain in Switzerland...but to test my new skis within an hour's drive of the city...its perfect)

Small but very nice.Friendly,good grooming.Can be a bit crowded on weekends and holidays,but that is certainly not unusual for most ski areas.An excellent,honest conditions report,right up there with Mad River Glen.

Great place to learn if you are a true beginner. Anything above that, don't waste your time. Definitely not worth the $45 they charge for a full day. Runs are just way too short to be enjoyable. By the time you get into a rhythm you are at the entrance to the lift.

About the Mountain:The mountain has 14 trails. There is really small (50-100yrds) trail (Snowbasin) for the absolute beginner with a carpet "lift". Problem is, it's practically flat so you really don't move that much. From there you can progress to the tow-rope trail (Deer Run) that is twice as long but a little more steep so you can actually ski, albeit it'll only take 10 seconds until you reach the bottom. After that, it's on to the chair lifts that bring you to the top of the mountain. Not to worry though, there are still beginner trails at the top. For those more experienced, you can also hit the black diamond bumps. In other words, there is something for everyone.About my trip:Brought my 10 year old here for his first time on skis. We spent the AM getting him comfortable on skis (mostly on Deer Run). After lunch, we headed up to the top for the beginner Upper Rim Run. I actually think it was easier for him to learn at the top of the mountain because you could ski for longer than 10 seconds, so he had plenty of time to learn to turn and stop. After a few runs, he wanted to try the intermediate hill (Cedar Lane) which he was fine on. Maybe for his second time on skis he'll want to hit the black diamond???Nutshell:As many others say, it's a great family-orineted place. Definitely small, and the runs are over quickly, but still a great time.

We've been meaning to get to this mountain for a while, finally got there today. Snow conditions were great, which impacts the experience, of course. This is a compact ski resort - no long runs, no big grounds, modest selection of different runs and lifts. Feels very family-run. Really liked the relaxed vibe. Also, as has been mentioned, this is a beginner-intermediate slope. if you are looking for something different you won't be happy at this place.There's a pretty long line for gear rentals w/ lift tickets, so plan accordingly. if you have your own gear the line is very short. Parking lots aren't huge and are right there, so there's no bus ride or concern about a major hike to get to the start. Makes it easy to put on your boots at the car and hike the short way to the lodge.The hills were nicely groomed, folks were generally polite and showed good ski etiquette, and the lift chairs were adequate for the crowds. Only frustration was that the runs are so short, you definitely spend more time waiting to ski than actually skiing.One other thing I'd point out is that each run is relatively short, so if you get into something over your skill level, it's not the end of the world - you can get yourself out after not too much panic! Great for families just learning to ski.

I may be a bit biased as this is our fourth year as season pass holders to this ski area, but here goes. MP was recommended to us as a nice mountain for my wife and daughter to learn, and for me to return to skiing after a 23yr hiatus. Parking is close to the lodge! Because it is considered one of the best downhill racing schools the runs are always groomed to the best conditions possible. Free group lessons are just that, free, and with a group. Just enough to give you the very basics. It is geared towards families, and the staff is knows this, and are very personable. Bus trippers full of drunken yahoos never go there!!!! Food, and snacks are always expensive at any mountain so be prepared, or bring your own. My 15yr old has made it clear that she has kind of outgrown the mountain, but this was after her 24hrs of ski school which helped her to reach expert level. Her mother is now taking the same class. We usually bring friends, or family with never a complaint. If you don't enjoy a great family day in the fresh air you are probably better off going to a mall!

We went to Mt. Peters for a day of skiing. The mountain is good for new to intermediate skiers. More advanced skiers will be bored. The overall facility was average. This is a definately not a 5 star facility, but it was perfect for our family, which consisted of 3 younger children who are just learning to ski.

I'm only going to review this mountain based on the setup for beginners, but in sure everyone would like this place. Drove over from Westchester, took 50 minutes from white plains, the same time as it takes to get to thunder ridge.1. Awesome magic carpet area. Twice the size of thunder ridges and twice the size of butternuts (been to both). They just put in the magic carpet this year apparently and did a nice job. Very nice slope to Xmas listSpy gear, spy vest, fishBow and arrow ChrisRemote start and white tbshirtsbeginner area for youth, nice and slow for them to learn and make mistakes without big falls.2. Free lessons. Ok, at first I was skeptical. We went on a Friday of a holiday week and took the early lesson. There were 8 kids to 4 instructors learning to snowboard. Later lessons were more crowded. These were basic instructions. My kids learned the basics of snowboarding in one lesson, ages 10 and 6 and 6. Enough to skate around on their board and have fun in the magic carpet area the rest of the day. My kids enjoyed themselves and want to go again, which is what I wanted out of the day.3. Value. I had my own equipment for them so the free lesson was a huge value for me vs. other local resorts. I only paid for lift tickets, and we were there all day. Couldn't beat the value.4. Snow. Like all the smaller mountains south of the Catskills you need to catch the weather after a few cold days where they can make snow. The snow was nice when I was there.In summary, I'll be back again, saving an hour each way vs the Catskills and be skipping thunder ridge as the overall mountain looks to be of a more interesting and nice trail design. I'll put the kids in one more free lesson and they will be ready for the loft hopefully.Happy riding, try out this place I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
