This property (about 1o miles north of Saratoga Springs includes an old boy scout camp plus several thousand acres of farm and forest put together by the Nature Conservancy, local governments, and private donors. The land is part of the "Lake Albany" left after the last glacier melted- a unique sand, soil and water landscape between the Helderberg Mountains and the Adirondacks more like a glacial moraine from Wisconsin combined with the Pine Barrens of Long Island or New Jersey. The trails are rolling and beautiful-great for snowshoeing and cross country skiing in winter, trail running and hiking in summer. The area has unique plants, Karner butterflies, flowering meadows in spring and a running creek. Saratoga area residents are familiar with the Preserve, but do not go out of their way to tell outsiders. In summer, there are trail races on Monday nights.Access is from Boy Scout Road-there are three parking areas. off that road.
