Very run down property with limited help around. The best part about it was the magic show by some old guy. The rest was pretty run down and scary.
If you like nostalgia then this place is fine. Had a good magic show, everyone enjoyed it. Place could use some new paint, but it has an old world charm to it.
Magic Forest is a park in which time has stood still. It has the old time charm of a park of the past. Little ones are more the audience here. Kiddy rides and nursery rhymes are cradled under the cool and peaceful pines. The park also has some rare and incredible rides and walk way pieces. I love the history of the area so it is a win win trip for kids and adults.
They charge very little and it's like magic and the rides my children like it. It's a good place to go if you have little children.
Recently took great-grandchildren to Magic Forest, very disappointed. Quiet a few of the rides were not running and most of the musical scores in the story houses did not work, even smokey the bear was out of order. Waited 20 minutes for lunch with only 1 person in line ahead of us. Staff were standing around talking or texting on cell phones. I guess it's hard to get good help these days. Management needs to really take notice of what is happening. This park is for children(7 and under)Have been here many times in the past, but with the cost going up & the quality going down I'll look for a new place for next year.
This old time amusement park lacks the thrills for the teens but is great for the little tykes. Great shows, kiddie rides galore and no long lines.
I had always seen this attraction from the road, but never stopped because my parents always warned me about carnival rides being dangerous. I figured that 'that was the '80s, and things have got to be better now', so I tried it out.Good:My husband and I went here with our 2 and 4 year old kids. The first two hours of our visit were okay. Lots of 'old school' carnival rides. Some were decided more for the teenager crowd -- fast spinning etc. But a few were nice, my kids liked the helicopter especially.Bad:We took the first safari ride after the lunch break. The 'safari' is on the northern edge of the park, and is essentially a 20-30 minute tractor pull ride up and down a rather steep pathway. There is a decorated 'tractor', then two trailers that have rear-wheels only and are attached to the tractor. They have decorated the forest around the path with old paper-machete statues of animals and other things. Some things I thought : 'huh, I haven't seen anyone depict foreign cultures that way since the '50s -- I guess this will be our last ride'. The ride down, was uneventful, if very, very smelly. I know tractors burn fuel, but this was ridiculous. The driver, like all the attendants, was a polite young (very young) man. When we got to the bottom, the path looped back up again. As the tractor went to climb the first small hill (10 feet in elevation change), the engine struggled. It started blowing blue smoke, then failed. We started rolling backwards. The two trailers started to jack-knife on themselves. Everyone was yelling 'brakes'. The driver tried to put on the breaks, but they also failed. The trailers started to tip, but then the rear wheel of the back trailer went off the path, blew out, and the trailer hit a tree, stopping. Everyone yelled 'get off! run!'. I grabbed my kids and scrambled up the hill. I was scared <!!!!>. The driver hopped out and asked if everyone was okay. Luckily no one had fallen out. The lady in the back narrowly missed getting hit with the tree. The driver sprinted up the road/hill (I guess he had no radio to call for help). I think we were all in shock. A manager came walking back down and told the driver to make sure everyone left the area. After this close call, we sat at the top of the ride for a while talking to the other people as they made it out of the area. Everyone was upset. We decided to go, and asked for a refund. They people there acted like it was a weird request. 'But haven't you already been here a few hours having fun'. -- well, yes, but that accident was pretty bad. A few more feet, and the jack-knived trailers would have turned over, and there were no safety restraints, so we would have all fallen out and could have been rolled over -- They did begrudgingly give us back our ticket price. (~$80 for a family of 4) I couldn't believe that they didn't take the accident more seriously. No one tried to collect names of folks who had been on the ride. No one followed up with people to make sure they were okay. They didn't seem to take the accident seriously. (And so, I myself reported the accident to the NYS oversight board.)Needless to say, we won't be returning. Its just not worth the risk.
It's so difficult to find an amusement park that has enough to keep a young child and/or toddler entertained. On a recent family visit to Lake George with three children ages 3 and under, we were able to spend an entire afternoon (4 hours+) and were totally thrilled. The place hasn't been updated in many years and was quite cheesy on some level, but that had no impact on the total joy experienced by the children. The magic show was quite entertaining, and it was definitely worth the price of admission. There was no wait for rides...the children could go on as many times as they wanted. Totally recommended!
We took our 3 year old son here for his birthday and had a blast. I was a little skeptical because people had said it was outdated but he loved it. The staff was great, you could bring in your own food and the café itself was decently priced.Tthey have cool statues that sing nursery rhymes kind of like a story book lane. My son loved the pumpkin that played Peter the Pumpkin Eater. The rides are all geared towards young kids I would say under the age of 7. I thought that was perfect because there aren't really any places to take the little ones where they can ride everything. They have a cute magic show and a diving horse. We will definitely be going back every year until he is too big. Please don't pass this place up. Its an amazing place to spend the day.
We are fortunate to have a place like this for our kids. The staff our great and you can tell there is an effort to make it fun, friendly and affordable. There is not many places with a park devoted to kids in the 1-6 year old age range. There is no push to buy stuff. There is no parading through a gift shop. There are completely fair and reasonable prices for food at the park but you are not denied the right to bring your own food like many other places. It is all about the fun and the smiles on the children's faces. The place is a little dated but that is part of the charm. The cost to update everything would surely put them out of business and this place is too important for the kids to have that happen. A lot of people are writing from an adult point of view but that would be a mistake since this is not for adults. You go for your kids.
All the shows were Great. The rides were geared towards young kids which is nice. There was not a wait for the rides. We will return again soon!!!
I brought my 9 year old along with my sister and her two kiddos aged 3 and 5 to the Magic Forest for the day. There was a ton for all of their ages. The best part was they could ride each ride as much as they wanted. We brought our lunches in and parking is free so overall not a bad deal. The magician was better than I thought he would be and the diving horse show was really cool too. The park has not been updated since it opened but I think that adds to the charm. Very clean too. The only bad parts were some of the animated attractions no longer worked and the safari ride reeked of gas. We would still go back however since the kids had a great time.
We took our 17 month old and our 3 year old boys here during our recent trip to Lake George. They loved every minute that we were there. Our 3 year old was so happy that he was able to ride pretty much all the rides along with his younger brother. The admission price is very reasonable. It is a little dated but still very enjoyable. You can purchase food there or bring your own food and have a picnic. Operators run two rides so you need to wait until one is finished to ride the other that they are operating. However we rarely had to wait for more than a minute to get on a ride.
Do not take a teenager here they will not like it. We took our 18 month old and she loved it. Next year she will like it more and be able to ride more. But for a first time park it was perfect for her.
Not many venues are specifically targeted to those children under 10. Down the road is 6 Flags/Great Escape, but only a small handful of rides are designed for the little people and overall that park is very cost prohibitive. Magic Forest provided my 4 year old son the opportunity to ride on every ride, for a very reasonable price! I didn't feel "scalped" at each turn. They are dated, as the park looks exactly like it did when I was a child! But that is also part of it's draw...nostalgia. And they still have the "Diving Horse" Show! This event is still a wonder for the little folks. You are also allowed to picnic and provide your own food, a no-no at 6 Flags, which ends up dragging at your wallet. If you have young children, and afternoon to kill in Lake George, and want to make them happy...Magic Forest is still the best bang for the buck!
