There isn't so much to do in Cooperstown and this is one of the main things. It is really done well and the whole family can enjoy the visit. It is educational and interesting.
We stopped here because we were in town for a Glimmerglass production and didn't know what else to do during the day since we aren't baseball fans.I confess my expectations were looooooow, but was I ever surprised. I had quite a good time there exploring the many "living" exhibits, and chatting away with the interpreters who stayed in character the entire time. We learned that many of the items manufactured there by hand are actually sold to the public beyond the borders of the little village. There was a Civil War re-enactment going on while we were there, which we found a little funny, but also entertaining. I think smaller kids would be more than captivated by the place (not so teenagers) and found it to be well worth the price of admission.
Its a three for me really, but a four because they do a really great job. If u like this kind of thing itll be a five. If your in town (which is lovely). And close to the Otesaga. Have a snack and drink on the veranda over looking the lake.
my friends were in the area from Florida and we took a three day tour of this area. We had stopped and dropped her husband off the the Baseball Hall of Fame first. She and I then drove the short distance to this Museum. There were lots to see and a variety of equipment and antiques. Plus there were real animals and gardens to visit. They have working fireplaces and printers with the tiny individual type sets too. We spoke with the people giving the demos and learned little tips too.
Ended up here because we ran out of other things to do. We really enjoyed it! It's a step back in time and interactive. I didn't think it would keep our boys 10 & 8 engaged but they liked it.
This "museum" is an actual working village of the 1800's. It is an eye-appealing attraction and an educational experience rolled into one. The museum staff are friendly and well-informed. The museum itself is worth seeing and what you learn from the staff brings the village to life. There is ample parking, restroom accommodations throughout, a snack bar and a great gift shop. If you plan to visit Cooperstown, make sure to allow time for a stop at the Farmer's Museum.
An entire operating village from a bygone era. From the start you are immersed in the period. Learn type setting in the printer's store, or candle making next door or watch the blacksmith fire up the coals to shape a horseshoe. You can see the live stock and walk through their barn. The chickens are out and about. For the adults become a kid again as you take a ride on the restored, wonderfully spectacular merry go round for the whole family. Have a snack, spend a few hours, watch your children enjoy riding the miniature farm equipment or just running about the expansive property..
Beautiful buildings, pastoral setting, friendly staff, interesting exhibits of live animals, crocks, old tools and farm equipment. Carousel something to behold, lovely! Worth seeing. Now closed for the season until spring.
I went to Farmers' museum and find it interesting. This is a place where time winds back and can relax. You can visit Fenimore art museum and Farmers' museum together at a discounted fee too.
This is a great place for adults and children to relax and enjoy a nice Fall Day. You can bring your lunch or snacks and relax with the kids or grankids. The town is nicely done and very realistic. You can spend the day so don't rush.
After the Fenimore and Hall of Fame, we needed a place where the kids could unwind a little. The hands on activities are great for the kids and the parents. Well worth the visit.
I went to the Farmer's Museum while my husband did the hall of fame. It was a nice morning. Great scenery, and interesting interactive exhibits. Everything is done "in the period." Cooking, cleaning, and making goods. I enjoyed being able to speak with the people who were at the exhibits. I did find it funny that there was some conflicting information given by the workers. I asked one younger guy a question, and a little while later a older co-worker gave me the opposite information. Just seemed as thought the younger workers just needed to buff up on their history of the area. Spent a good three hours, and probably could have spent another hour there. Probably something really fun to do with the little ones.
Went during the week and it wasn't crowded. So nice to walk around at our own pace and see the demonstrations. The staff was very friendly and answered any questions we had.
The Farmer's Museum is a great attraction with very interesting exhibits, highlited by one of the best merry-go-rounds you will find. The animals on the MGR represent different areas of the State of NY and the ladies who operate it have cascinating tales about different areas of the state.
Great for a fall day activity. Beautiful setting, fun things for kids and adults. Farm animals, old-fashioned houses and other buildings, demonstrations of "old-time" cooking, printing, etc. Very cool!
