Easily accessible by metro and by bus if you have an extra day in NYC and want some peace and quiet go to Prospect Park. With over 500 acres and designed by the same group that created Central Park you will enjoy just as much. Prospect Park has many walking trails, playgrounds for children, a skating rink, boat house, place for live music and more!

This is probably one of my favorite parks in NYC- and there are so many. It's absolutely worth a trip out here. What I like is that it's very easily accessible via various modes of transportation, so entrances are in very a diversity of neighborhoods, each near specific sites. There are many nearby attractions that make it a good main feature or side trip.I love the lake especially. There's a tiny island in the middle and you can ride in a boat, fish, or feed the ducks. Some of the nearby trails completely obscure the surrounding areas, so you feel like you are in the woods instead of a large city. The other gem that is an entity in and of itself is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which is on the outside border on Eastern Pkwy, with the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Library dotting the park.

The beautiful & calm Prospect Park, called the little brother of Central Park in Manhattan is the green oasis of Brooklyn! Around since the 19th century rich people lived in beautiful Brownstones, you see bicycles, Kids, dogs, Jogging, etc … with the Subway not far to Coney Island, NY's Beach!

Even in the middle of winter, Prospect Park is alive with activity. Lots of trails ... biking and hiking. Fun place for all ages. This is a jewel in the heart of Brooklyn. The Alliance has done a great job in keeping this park well preserved.

Located in park slope great place for summer and winter fun the children love the snow and hills. The summer offers many beautifal things to see. There are tours to take when weather permits. Staff friendly and helpful

Real natural feel and look to the winding trails that follow the water brooks and falls. Amazing pond. Lots of room for frisbie or a game of baseball.

Whenever I visit my friends in Park Slope, I can't wait to visit Prospect Park. It's a gorgeous oasis in the middle of the city. And the dog park is phenomenal. On certain mornings it is off leash, which is a great time to meet with some fellow dog people. And dogs!

I frequent Prospect Park mostly to use its bike path, which provides for a solid route to a strong cardio workout. Still, this place has so much more, from running paths and trails, to horse trails, to ball fields, to boating and fishing. It's truly a gem of Brooklyn. It's especially beautiful during mid spring or as fall is coming in and the leaves have started to change colors.

If you're a jogger, that a thing for you. Also if you're in for land skiing (in winter of course), walking, sledging, etc.

My husband and I didn't know what to expect when we decided to take a trip to Prospect Park! Sure you've heard of Central Park (who hasn't) but for many foreigners (especially those from across the seas) Prospect Park was a bit of a mystery. The park is huge and easy enough to get to via subway (there's a few stops right across the street from the park). There's a lot to see, the largest arch in NYC, playgrounds, rivers etc. and there's even a zoo but if you're looking for a relaxing stroll in a park that isn't crowded by tourists with cameras this is the one for you. Don't get me wrong, Central Park is beautiful and was definitely a highlight of our trip but there was something peaceful and serene about Prospect Park that had us hooked. On a walking tour in Manhattan our guide told us that Central Park and Prospect Park were designed by the same people and after all was said and done the men who designed them both preferred Prospect Park (this is what she told us anyhow). We walked around the park, took in the sights, the trees were lovely I can't imagine what it would be like in the fall. It almost seemed like we were the only ones there (it was the day after Christmas and not very busy). One thing we wanted at to do at Christmas time for sure in NYC is ice skating but the Rockefeller Center was so busy, expensive and small when we heard about Prospect Park we thought we'd give it a try. The ice rink in Prospect park is HUGE, there's a full size hockey rink that is covered (for rainy days) and a large outdoor rink (the two rinks are connected by a small bridged area). The outdoor rink looks out over the lake and best of all we skated here and rented a locker for our shoes/bags and it cost us less then the price of one person at the Rockefeller Center. There didn't seem to be a time limit so we could skate as long as we want, there's plenty of lockers and it wasn't very busy which was nice for my husband as he's just beginning (lots of space to hold on to the rails!). Overall Prospect Park was a pleasant surprise and definitely a must see if you decide to venture out to Brooklyn.

At one of the high points of Brooklyn, Prospect Park is a oasis in the city. The entrance at the north end is at Grand Army Plaza, a large traffic circle with the largest arch in the city. Prospect Park was designed by the same guys that designed Central Park and although it is a bit smaller, is even more enjoyable.

Prospect Park, covering almost 600 acres , one of the oldest and biggest urban parks of North America, was also created by the same two landscape designers after they completed landscaping the central park in Manhattan ,New York. Originally a thick wooded forest , and now abundant with age-old forest trees forming a canopy over the many shaded pathways and by-ways, It is an extremely pleasant place for relaxation and recreation ; the other attractions include a big lake -, the only lake in Brooklyn- , a long meadow, a park zoo, and a number of facilities for sports,- baseball fields, tennis center, basketball courts and soccer field. Open on all days of the year , brooklyners are seen engaged in various activities- strolling, walking , jogging, running, , biking, , moms pushing the prams , people walking the dog, playing with children, reading a book under a tree or taking a nap or simply relaxing under the shade of a tree. The park also hosts events such as concerts, weddings and parties , for a fee.. Having visited the park in summer, I could visualize the magnificent sight of the trees with the enchanting fall colours in autumn. .

The sheer size of the park In such a densely populated area is noteworthy. That being said, it is an amazing amounts of green space. We watched my nephew play soccer and were able to walk to a sizable playground afterwards. With Park Slope on the west, we were able to enjoy a nice coffee as we walked north towards the Grand Army Plaza, which is impressive in its own right. It, too, was designed by Frederic Law Olmstead, the architect of Prospect Park and Central Park. I strongly recommend you check it out if you are in Brooklyn.

Wow being from Australia I had a certain preconception that Brooklyn was just all buildings and ugly. But how misguided I was. Brooklyn and Prospect Park is amazing and in a lot of ways I think better than Central Park. A lot quieter and away from the hustle, bustle and arrogance of the big smoke!! Despite the winter cold and absence of green grass and muddy areas the walk we took around the parklands and lakes was just so relaxing and so beautiful. I can only imagine what it is like in the warmer months and the other three seasons with the flowers, leaves and colours. The surrounding area with the Brooklyn Library, Museum and Botanic Gardens is more reminiscent of Rome or Madrid than a city that is part of New York. Makes my top ten must sees for New York.

Bring you binoculars and watch them on the lake in the trees. Listen to their "music." A laid back park....just enjoy
