Not too much happening here but we were on a three day exploration of Brooklyn and this was a spot we had to see and enjoyed for a few hours. It is worth the visit for views of Manhattan, the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges, and coffee at the Brooklyn Roasting Co. Walk down to the river and take a $2 ride on the antique carousel - make sure you hop on a horse that goes up and down!
Gorgeous area with great specialty shops and restaurants, worth the work over Brooklyn Bridge for a visit
Dumbo couldn't possibly be as good as its hipster reputation, right? Wrong! Galleries, restaurants and the St. Anne's Warehouse Theater are just a few of the elements that enliven this gentrified Brooklyn attraction. On a temperate evening, take in First Monday, when local galleries open their doors to art lovers, serving up wine, cheese and creativity.
No idea why this is in the guide books or even described as an 'attraction'. It's a few scruffy blocks with some little shops and delis. Nothing to see except the bridges, don't waste your time going here.
Beautiful area with lots of personality! Great park for kids - excellent view and easy access to both Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. Park and carousel are great for the kiddos!
Visited here after spending time mainly on Manhattan Island. Lovely little place to visit for some unique shops, bars and great photo opportunities of the Queensborough bridge between ally ways. It was snowing heavily when we arrived but I bet this place would be even more awesome in the summer months.
Just a great area to have a snack at Shake Shack, Grimaldis or Ice Cream factory, and look out to the pier and see the Brooklyn Bridge. Also provides a great photo opportunity of the Queensborough bridge between the alley ways
I was walking around this neighborhood yesterday and stumbled upon some interesting buildings. One of the buildings I discovered was the Robert Gair Company. Robert Gair invented the paperboard folding carton by accident. He was a paper bag maker and printer in Brooklyn in the 1870's. There are some neat views of the three bridges (Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Manhattan).
Beautiful views of Manhattan (and of Brooklyn Bridge) just across the river. A variety of restaurants, shops & galleries to peruse. Add this to your list of must sees along with Williamsburg
Have lived here many years, long enough to see the transformation of a formerly desolate artist's neighborhood into one of the most expensive places to live in NYC. Now a historic neighborhood, DUMBO is worth a visit in conjunction to a visit to the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Restaurants: Current favorite restaurant is "Atrium" at Main Street. Pedro's Bar on Jay Street serves a Dominican approximation of Tex-Mex and I would avoid unless it is summer and want to have a beer Al Fresco. You can do the same dining Al fresco at Gran Electrica Mexican restaurant and have better more authentic experience. Gran Electrica is around the corner from the overhyped touristy Grimaldi's.Superfine Restaurant on Front Street is always fine, sometimes noisy but great if you are around for Brunch. Vinegar Hill house is precious and expensive but very good. My recommendation is to start out here in the morning, walk over the BB bridge and eat at Chinatown.Best shopping here involves furniture and clothes.
Beautiful views, they have a carousel for the little ones, but overall, I don't think it will ever be what was expected. Better off walking over the Brooklyn Bridge! Jacque Torres has his chocolate store there - that in itself isn't worth the schlepp to that neighborhood.
Firstly, it's a beautiful area! Stunning! Great for dates, family outings or hangout with friends. So many areas in this place! There are bike rentals to bike on the boardwalk, huge grass area, benches, rocks to sit on... Very calming. Gorgeous and great experience.
This is a trendy area loaded with nicely decorated homes, small restaurants, and great photo opportunities. One thing I noted was the lack of people and how quiet it was when we visited. Not like the crowds across the river in Manhattan. We also felt very safe in that area. A relaxing moment in NYC.
DUMBO is awesome. Our son lives in Brooklyn and he turned us on to the area some years back. Every time we go, there is at least one wedding party, and the police helicopters always do flybys. From DUMBLO we took the ferry over to Manhattan and walked from there to the 911 memorial.
There is no shortage of little parks, places to eat, snack or grab a coffee while you explore. There is a great little amphitheatre on a rocky beach in between Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges with really majestic views. Well worth checking out.
