REFRESHING- breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the serenity! So thankful the gates aren't locked for winter and you can take in the scenery- frozen lake and nature watching - was hoping to see a snowy owl, but no luck this time - will be back many more times
We stumbled across this gem while exploring Buffalo with little or no guidance. Beautiful waterfront.
Every summer we take a sail on the miss Buffalo for a boat ride, if you just take a walk around the marina you'll find so much peace and tranquility in abundance. Dont miss the jewel in the Queen city crown.
Normally I don't climb the observation deck when visiting Erie Basin Marina even though there are under a hundred stairs. I find the concrete unattractive and there is a dank feeling. However, when you get to the top the view is beautiful! You can enjoy the cityside but my favorite views are out over the lake and down the river. This is a great spot for photographs.
The Marina is one of Buffalo's special gems. There are always boats coming and going. The flowers are lovely and well cared for. Parking is rarely a problem. While it's lovely for a stroll along the waterfront at any time, it especially comes into its own at sunset. The views across the water are outstanding, usually with rich color. It's a very relaxing place to visit.
My friend and I discovered the marina while aimlessly driving around Downtown Buffalo. It definitely was an incredible find! We entered the marina and were both amazed by the beautiful lakeside views. We even saw colorful gardens situated along the waters. There are no parking fees, which is unheard-of to us New York City natives. Before exploring the marina, my friend and I decided to buy ice cream at The Hatch. They offer a wide variety of flavors for everyone's liking. The Hatch also offers burgers, hotdogs, and the like, which is a plus. We enjoyed our ice cream cones by the water, which was a very pleasant experience. Afterwards, we walked down the marina and enjoyed the view. There were several boats docked, which was quite a sight to see. It was a particularly warm day, and there were several people who brought out chairs in order to rightfully soak up the sun. At the end of the marina lies an observation tower. The climb up was quite long, but the breathtaking view at the top made it worthwhile. In the observation tower, I was able to see Downtown Buffalo, Lake Erie, and even Canada. My friend and I reached the tower at the right moment, since the sun was setting. It was truly spectacular! On our way back, we noticed an entrance down to the shore. There were several kids playing in the sand, and adults unwinding in their chairs. Everyone seemed happy.Overall, the Erie Basin Marina exceeded my expectations. The whole time I was there, I felt completely relaxed and at ease. It seemed as if time slowed down. My friend and I loved the marina so much that we visited again a week after our first visit! It is a definite must-see whenever you're around the area!
The gardens at the Erie Basin Marina are beautiful. The plants have labels on them so you can research ones that you like. The marina is connected to the Naval Park and Canalside. The Hatch is a great casual restaurant to eat at.
We went to watch the regatta. Inspiring view. We walked up into the tower and that was a breath taking view.
Brought out the chairs and a glass of wine and watched the sunset. Very relaxing and fun. It can get windy so bring a blanket.
Great area to relax with some fabulous street food while running from seagulls. That's not a negative. I wanted the whole outdoor experience, and I got it at the Marina.
Our latest visit to the Erie Basin Marina was in May during the Heritage Centers' 5K Walk/Run where the halfway point was the new Buffalo Lighthouse. We have, in the past, visited the Marina many times to walk, board the Miss Buffalo, grab a bit to eat at The Hatch, or just watch a glorious sunset over Lake Erie. It is close to many of the other waterfront attractions.
Had a great afternoon at the Erie Basin Marina last week. Gorgeous day to get away and cool the jets of your busy day. Strolled around, watched the sailboats sailing by on the calm and warm lake day on the river. Really relieves the stresses of the day just to sit back, relax and watch the slow sails going by pushed by a gentle breeze. The world seems to slow down and lets you breath in the fresh air. You notice and appreciate the beauty of the world through its nature because time doesn’t get ahead of you, it makes you move in slow motion. We have a lot of history here in the Buffalo/Western New York area. Just across from the Hatch eatery, there are life-sized statues of Frederick Law Olmstead, Thomas Edison, and even our own Tim Russert, (native Buffalonian and former host of “Meet The Press” on NBC), as well as other noted celebrated figures connected to the area. The artist carved these figures out of the wood left over from the October storm of 2006. You’ve got the Naval ships at the Naval Park, docked Miss Buffalo, Coast Guard Lighthouse, boating, and the Hatch eatery patio on the water with people chilling and enjoying the weather. What more could you ask for in a quick getaway? It’s definitely worth taking a trip down to the marina and the waterfront on the other side. There are so many relaxing things to do and explore chilling out at the marina…It’s a thumbs up!
This is hands-down, my favorite spot to visit in Buffalo during the summer months. It's a wonderful place to walk or sit and relax on the water regardless if you have a boat or not. Climb up the look out tower at the end of the road and you'll have a spectacular 360deg view of the city of Buffalo, Canada and the lake. If you continue the other way down the walking path you will walk past the Naval Park and end up by Canal Side and if you're feeling really ambitious continue walking and you will go past the old train station, the Buffalo Fire boat and end up at a lovely park across from the grain elevators - not many people make it that far. I especially recommend mornings or weekdays as it is not as busy but wonderful for sunset as well. Since it's right on the water it's usually a little cooler in temp. Great inexpensive place to take your kids. No dogs allowed. Ice cream, burgers/ hot dogs available for purchase at The Hatch. Free parking.
Nice marina/park, in downtown Buffalo, with an observation tower at the end of it. Lots of people can be seen walking on the wall, enjoying the views of Lake Erie. The kids love climbing up the stairs to get a better view from the tower. If you head the other way you can enjoy the gardens that are located along the rivers edge. A nice, quiet place to get away for awhile !
I've been a local since 1987 and I am so excited about the changes in the waterfront! There are lots of nice open spaces and seating to relax and enjoy the sunset or just a beautiful day. I've been to the naval park and always enjoy. There is now a restaurant/bar with a patio and every time I go (although I haven't eaten there yet) there is live music playing. We enjoyed the historical ship this summer as well as the arts and crafts fair. There are cruises lake and canal cruises to enjoy and it's just turning into an all around great place to be. Hurray for Buffalo!
