I was born in Buffalo and never had any interest in seeing these ships. But we decided to take our 10 year old grandson and what a pleasant surprise. There are so many things to see and explore on these boats. The submarine was fascinating. Lots of interesting facts placed everywhere. We spent a couple hours exploring. My grandson loved it so much, he still talks about it months later. Beautiful walk along the water, there is a small souvenir store plus a few buildings with lots of history displays. Parking can be tricky but just pay close attention to the signs.
My boyfriend and I went here in the summer of 2014 to visit family and friends in his hometown. This was one of my favorite things we did! If you're walking along the boardwalk that runs along the harbor to where it runs into Lake Erie, there's a company the does kayak rentals. We chose to go tandem and were able to get right up by the submarine, and then went over to the rocks by the lighthouse. He brought his GoPro camera so we got fantastic pictures and videos. I highly suggest doing this! The price was reasonable and we enjoyed about an hour of kayaking up and down the harbor area, which we shared with other tour boats and had a great view of the Arena as well. Definitely a great way to enjoy a beautiful sunny day in Buffalo! Up in the square they have picnic chairs, soft green grass, bathrooms, and vendors for a cute picnic with the family or a great couples afternoon in the sun.
The naval park is a great place to start, with the WWII ships and a sub there are also a few places to get great food and drinks and you can walk around the area of the Erie Canal terminus, rent a Kayak or water bike on the Buffalo river. Just one great place to spend a day or two. There are many fine hotels and restraunts in the area.
Touring the boats was the highlight for my family, we tagged along the back of a guided tour . The guy giving the tour was both very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Just went down there on a whim with the wife and kids and enjoyed late summer day and hung out walking around people watching and enjoying an ice cream cone
We kind of just walked around and headed to the coast. We followed the signs for the Naval Pier. What an incredible surprise. Beautiful memorials, several ships that you can tour, great view of the lake. I only wish we had more time there.
A must see on Buffalo's growing canal side. So much to learn about, fascinating info and a great view. The waterfront is growing and this will be one of the destination spots to go to.
I was very surprised at he size of the park. It was cold out but we managed to visit all of the displays representing the branches of the US military. There were many name plaques commemorating service of locals for the various branches. There is the aircraft park (US Navy and Air Force) as well as the "Big" ship in port which was closed on the day we visited but is open for tours normally. There were many families out. It reminds me of the service and dedication to our country by all Military Service People. I was glad to have visited.Travelbabe
This may not be the biggest or best Naval Park but its in a great location on the waterfront and near good restaurants and other attractions.
A great way to spend a day ! The history here is wonderful ! Coupled with a well planned layout placed on Buffalo's resurging and expanding waterfront young and old alike will want to come back again !
With my father being a navy man (God rest his soul) this park holds a special place in my heart for me. I have visited this park on a couple of occasions and each time I enjoy it more. I plan to go back again in the Spring and will recommend this park to anyone. No one should ever miss visiting this Naval Park, it is a wonderful place to learn about our historical pride and the dedication to service for our country so many gave their lives for which my Dad was a part of.
Very cool way to check out the ships that the US Navy used. Up close and personal with the equipment. Probably one of the better Navy Ship museums. Very reasonable prices. If you're a history buff, there is a lot of information in the main building upstairs.
You owe it to yourself to visit Buffalo's Naval and Military Park. Learn about our historical pride and dedication to the service of our country. Enjoy a tour of the awesome ship. All situated on our beautiful, refurbished Canal !

Located along the waterfront, it is a fantastic place to visit. You can go aboard each ship and walk through. It gives you a first hand look at life at sea. Also a lot of history.
