If you are in Saratoga and need some activity for your toddler kids, this is the place to go. You can spend about 2-3 hours easily without getting bored.
Went for my niece's 3 year birthday party. The museum is like a big play area with each exhibit being a themed play area. For example, there was a bank, firehouse and engine, cafe, congress park, a constructions zone and a school house. There are many dress up things and plenty to build and experiment with. The party was for ages 2-10 and each child did seem to have fun, even the older ones. The younger children loved it. The party room was okay. Just a small partition separating the two party spaces. Perhaps you can get the whole room with enough people. My son of 6 months was too young for anything other than looking around, but he enjoyed that. Very cute and a nice way to get out in the cold NY winter. It appears you have to pay for parking but if you are a visitor f the museum you do not. I will take my son here when he is older.
I have never been here before but my 5 year old granddaughter has and she told me it's her favorite place to go. The admission price is great. I love all the different kinds of things to do. In each place they had interactive materials that explained things or asked you to do. Very educational and entertaining. My granddaughter loved the stage area with the puppets and clothing. I promised her we would definitely be going there again.
We took my kids to the museum last Weds. By Friday, my 10 month old son had come down with coxsackie virus (we did not go anywhere else, outside of the home). We spent Friday night in Urgent Care and on Saturday my daughter came down with the same. I am very concerned with the level of cleanliness at the museum. The toys and exhibits look as though they have not been cleaned in years. I understand that children go there to play and have fun but you can tell the museum does not get cleaned on a regular basis. For a trip that was by no means cheap, I would expect the level of cleanliness to be much higher. Not happy is an understatement.
For only six bucks a person great way to spend an afternoon my child loves this place lots of educational toys as well as just fun stuff we do this anytime we have a free day
I'm not going to gush but my 4 year old grandson did have a good time. Thank goodness children won't be deterred by the sour, bored expressions on most of the staff's faces. There's a lot to do inside and some things to do outside given decent weather. Not too many places for tired adults to sit but you pretty much run around with the kids anyway.
I thought this place was very nice. It wasn't crowded, but today was a beautiful sunny day. My four year old was not very interested in the first floor activities at all. I do think that all children's museums should get rid of those bubble makers that never really work, and the pond activity was a little boring. She did have a great time on the second floor in the diner, which was where we spent the bulk of our time. She also enjoyed the store. She was finished in a little over an hour and wanted to leave. I was glad that we did not come to Saratoga specifically for the museum. I would try it again if we come back to Saratoga bc I am a member of my local children's museum and was admitted for half price. 6 dollars is not too much to spend for an hour of entertainment.
The museum has so many interesting rooms to explore and activities to try out. Kids love the museum. The only problem is that it can be really busy on the weekends, especially when there are birthday parties. Just be ready to be flexible and move to other less crowded parts of the museum.
Went there on a rainy weekday morning with daughter and her three children: ages, 7, 6 and 3.At first the older two were not interested in most of the exhibits but soon settled down play acting as firemen and trolley conductors with younger brother and other children visiting the museum. The downstairs area is a bit dark and could use better lighting in the interior areas. There was not enough bubble ingredients to make the large bubbles and the other bubble exhibit wasn't working at all. This area could use some upgrading and maintenance. They loved the diner, however, which was well equipped and bright with large windows. We think they had the most fun upstairs with the magnets, building blocks and volunteer assisted art project. We were there a couple of hours so in spite of the fact that the museum is geared to young children under 6, the kids found some things that interested them. It served the purpose of getting out for awhile on a rainy day.
Such a wonderful museum. The exhibits are so well presented and what felt like a really small space better suited for younger kids turned into a delightful time for all of us. The bank and the kitchen/diner thrilled my 9 and 12 year olds
The layout and function of the upstairs is very cool, the downstairs could use some improvements. They have a large bubble maker that gets other items slippery. Some stuff animals and items are starting to get worn out. They over charge for a children's museum. I think parents should be free. I've gone a few times and when they have daycares or schools go as large groups the place gets over crowded.
My family had the BEST time at our last visit to the Children's Museum!!! We aren't yet members, but only because we live a good distance away. The staff is amazing!!!! For a group of mostly teenagers they are mature and BEYOND helpful!! The suggested activities are great for quieter days, but on busy days, my kids (who are 3 and 6) have no problem with making new friends! They learn important lessons by doing, rather than watching it happen on television. We LOVE the children's museum!! :)
Don't be confused by the name. This is not a museum. It has play areas for kids roughly 6 and younger. Each area/room has a way for kids to play using their imaginations. There is a grocery store, a post office, a diner, a bank, a stage with costumes, etc. Each area is filled with props to help the kids play. My kids liked playing in the diner the best.It is a lot of fun. Both my son and daughter had birthday parties here. Staff was great.
This is a great museum for a young mind. Children 6 years of age or older may be uninterested. Even the website recommends children 7 or under. My visit was brief. My 5 year old was occupied briefly by each exhibit. I believe I would have made it a better visit if I had a fried along for the day. Either way I think this is a worthwhile, one time visit on a rainy day. Check the website for hours of operation.
Great place to take a day trip with a little one. Very interactive museum and our son loves going here. Military discount as well.
