The Mount Will Trail can be reached by taking Route 2 east of Bethel Village. The trail is on the left side and is across the street from the Bethel Recycle and Transfer Station, on your right side. There is only a small sign, at the entrance to the parking lot, marking the Mount Will Trail so watch for it or you could miss it....there is a port-a-potty there also. This is a WELL marked trail with AMAZING views!!! We made good use of our snowshoes and thoroughly enjoyed the hike up and down this mountain trail! The trail is steep in some sections, but we just took it slow and very much enjoyed this WONDERFUL ADVENTURE!!! This is a 3.25 mile loop trail with incredible views of the Androscoggin River Valley and Bethel Forest! GO, you will not be disappointed!!!!!
great views of the water. It goes around town, under the highway and out to a water park, which was closed. Near the end is a Dunkin Donuts if you ned something to drink / eat.
The last time I hiked this trail it had obviously be recently maintained. It's easy to follow the trodden path or keep an eye out for the blazes on the trees. It's a beautiful walk through the woods even though it's close to town. The views from the ledges and cliffs are beautiful, especially in the fall. The trail does get steep in places. Frequent switch backs keep it from being a "climb" but you are gaining elevation quickly. The shorter length keeps this trail from a more difficult rating. If you are not a seasoned hiker it could prove challenging but "do-able" if you take your time.
I saw this trail listed in the "easy" section of a Bethel hiking guide and I'm very glad I reviewed the Trip Advisor reviews before setting out! This trail was definitely a good challenge for an occasional hiker like me. Parts of it were steep on the way up and down the loop but no problem to navigate, especially if you have hiking boots and a pole or stick. And bug spray is a must! There are several breathtaking lookouts that make the trip worthwhile. Enjoy!
take a lunch along and have it on the granite face overlooking the valley. You will not be disappointed. For a good sandwich go to Smokin Good BBQ on Rt 2 or the little gourmet food shop right across from it in the same parking lot.
Trailhead located on Rte. 2 opposite Bethel Transfer Station. This is a very nice loop day hike. If you take the loop and bear to right at bottom, you will go to South Ledges first, which have some views, but are not the greatest. The best views are from the North Ledges which give you commanding vista of Sunday River ski area, Androscoggin River, Mt. Abram and Bethel Village. If you are time pressed and don't want to do full loop, bear to left at bottom and just visit North Ledges.
Conveniently located, this trail was a pleasant surprise. Due to recent rain, we decided to return when we have our hiking boots!
I found this to be a strenuous hike. I only did the section to North Ledges. It is pretty much straight up- 600 feet elevation climb- no switchbacks. I met some locals on the trail and they said the original trail creator "didn't believe in switchbacks". However, it is worth it for the view. I went up and down in less than an hour- the brochure said 1.5 hours. If I had the time I would have done the loop to the South Cliff- which you can do on it's own as well. If you geo-cache, there is one up there.
We love this trail - which is just a ten minute drive from downtown Bethel. Do the loop hike to the right - going up the North Ledges and down the south cliffs. Take a walking stick or hiking poles! The views from the top are spectacular in any season. We hike there at least three times a year - in every season but Spring!
My wife and I hiked in sneakers... Would have been nice to have hiking boots. It had some steep portions that made the hike challenging at times. The total hike was just under 2.5 hours. Highly recommend the trail, just follow the Blue Blazer makers on the trees and you will not get lost. We went on September 2, 2011... I hope to hike it again in the fall when the leaves turn. The entrance to the trail is right across from the recycle center.
