We have When Pig's Fly around out home and enjoy it, so we figured we'd stop by their main store (where all the bread is made). We were pleasantly surprised to find a big store with a lot of free samples (including dipping sauces). They have TONS of bread, sauces, jams, cookies, and butters to try, and everything is yummy- from desserty chocolate breads to breads that are more like a whole meal in-one with every veggie you can imagine.Never a disappointment.
Large of selection of fresh homemade breads. Homemade pizzas made next door. Local olive oils for dipping breads or cooking. Always a busy place. One place you'll return to wondering what bread to try next.
I can't believe this was my first trip here. I never drove the extra mile past the outlets, silly me! This is a breadaholics paradise! Sure I've had the Pig's bread from our local grocer, but this variety is just insane! The combinations were endless. Sampling is encouraged and recommended. My kind of lunch, good bread, cheese and a bottle of wine! Try the pretzels too!
When Pigs Fly Bakery has several locations in Maine and one in Portsmouth, NH. We stopped at the bakery in Kittery, Maine, just off highway 1. As soon as you enter the bakery, the aroma of freshly baked bread has you hooked! There is a table for sampling the many fresh, daily baked breads, and there are many varieties of specialty breads ,made with nuts, fruit, vegetables and assorted flours, all without preservatives. Because of this, the breads don't last long, but that is never a worry, especially in our house! My only regret is that we didn't buy more!
Have to stop here if you're going to the outlets or just driving through on Route 1. Very extensive bread menu -- fruit breads, whole wheats, ciabattas, and many many many many more. All delicious!! We bought three loaves and can't decide which one is the best. Loved them all. And if you happened to be around on a Sunday morning, I hope the outside pulled pork stand is outside... scrumptious.
No frill here folks, but the food is decent and the beer is plentiful. First visited a year ago after it first opened. Everything we got (party of 6) was fresh and plentiful. A year later, the presentation of the food is a bit different and the quality is a bit less. Prices are moderate but the menu is extensive for a "pizza place"Open dining and somewhat noisy but worth the trip.
