We hiked above the Lake, to Maiden's bluff/cliff? Perfect 1-2hrs hike. Easy-Medium difficulty. Great views of the Lake.
We snorkeld around the lake the water was dirty with iol like beads in the water and the plant life on the bottom was mostly dead.
Clear water, greater swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing and of course fishing. Many large and small mouth bass, rainbow and brown trout, and salmon if you like trolling deep.
Enjoyed Balance Rock and the picturesque views from the yellow and orange trails. Be prepared by wearing the right shoes as there are lots of roots to walk over. Very pretty spot to a very large, but quiet lake.
The lake was great and we had a good time kayaking around the islands and in and out of coves. I was not impressed with the amount of boat traffic on the lake. I don't mind motor boats but there seemed to be alot. With that said, The parking lot for boats seemed to really accommodate boats with trailers. Those with kayaks or paddle boards had to park on the side of the road.
After we kayaked away from the highway, we could hear the loons and found it quieter. Although there are many residences and cabins along the shoreline, there is a nice view of Mount Battie and we found the swimming so fun. There are a few rock islands that allow for some great diving. The water was cool with warm currents coursing through in spots. Watch out for recreational boaters!
If you have already enjoyed the beautiful Camden salt water experience and are looking for a new swimming venue don't miss out on the fresh water swimming at a small beach at Barrett's Cove on Megunticook Lake.It is literally 3 miles or so from downtown Camden and sits in the cradle of some amazing cliffs(Maiden"s Cliff) to one side. There was no entrance fee to this small park where tables and a grassy area were available also. Water is crystal clear and the depth of the water increases ever so gradually making it a great experience for children. There are some small twigs resting on most of the bottom so swimming shoes are helpful.
Megunticook Lake is beautiful and crystal clear! Full of both large and small mouth bass, beautiful scenery!
The views are amazing, trails for hiking, boating on the lake was calm with lots of coves to explore, and an area to swim with a dock to swim out to from the beach.
We simply enjoy a nice leisurely drive around the lake. Pretty lake views, very relaxing. Photographic pull-offs along the way, for those wanting to take pix.
We were visiting the area and staying in Camden. On one of our drives through the area, we saw a little park off of Megunticook Lake and our jaws dropped at the scene. We drove around the lake in awe of all the views and nice homes along the ride. We stopped at the park after 6PM and jumped into the water with the dogs and played a bit of fetch. This is a hidden (maybe not so much anymore) treasure in the area.
Really lovely for relaxing, boating, or swimming (within the ropes off the designated sandy beach). It's a bit marshy around some of the picnic tables, but is a beautiful spot to visit.
The sandy beach area slopes very gently into the lake and is perfect for families that want to splash around a lot without getting too deep too fast.
As near-beginner kayakers taking our first independent paddle (I was in a tandem with my slightly-more-experienced husband), Megunticook proved a perfect setting to strike out on our own. We found lots of islands and coves to explore, and encountered other boaters and swimmers but didn't feel crowded. Extremely relaxing experience full of wildlife. Very easy to put in a kayak and get going.
lake with hills in background for a pretty setting. Quiet lake with row boats and sail boats. Public boat launch sites are on the lake too.
