Very friendly staff and excellent trails, well conditioned. Wide XC ski trails with both ski skate and track grooming. Snowshoe trails were well laid out and marked.
The trails were well groomed and first-rate. We went out on the Tote Road, which was flat and a pleasure to ski. Very welcoming host.
It had been awhile since attempting cross country skiing as we both are avid downhill skiers. Staff made the rentals easy and spent time recommending trails. We had a great time exploring and had wonderful views of Saddleback. Definitely coming back for snowshoeing and recommending to friends and family!
We did the longest loop at the trails center - we were practically the only ones there on a Saturday morning with superb snow conditions and most of the trails were groomed. It was fabulous. There aren't too many views from the trails as you're mostly in the woods, but it's lovely.
Excellent grooming! Beautiful trails and nice volunteers!
We were avid downhill skiiers who, as we get older, gravitate more to the cross-country variety. Last winter we chose the Saddleback area because it we wanted to ski the hill after not being there for almost 20 years and to ski the trails at Rangeley Lakes. It was a wise decision. The cross country trail center is located in a yurt on the road up to the ski hill. Inside you get the usual warm and genuine greeting that makes Maine so special. If you don't have equipment you can rent it here - including snowshoes. On the day we visited there was literally nobody else on the trails except one person in training for races. All trails emanate in a variety of circular routes from the center. There is a great little warmup trail, Geneva Bog loop after which thereare a number of choices, all of which take advantage of the lower slopesof Saddleback Mountain. You can ski down to Saddleback Lake or up to the base lodge at the ski hill, although the latter is long tiring uphill. We found the trails to be in great shape in terms of grooming, and those that were not groomed had lots of snow. There are beautiful views of Saddleback Mountain from many trails and the Maine north woods are full of wildlife as evidenced by the many different tracks. The Rangeley Lakes Centre is a great alternative to a day on the slops of Saddleback.
