Had a great night at the races with good friends. Plenty of good seating and a snack area if you get the munchies. Not pricy. Good action !
While staying in Old Orchard Beach with our grandson; we were looking for things to do in the area and came across the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME. I hadn’t been to a stock car race in many years and had forgotten how much fun they can be. We went a little early to watch some of the qualifying events. It was announced up front that this is a family affair and anyone misbehaving would be asked to leave. Also, no smoking is allowed. There is food available at a reasonable price or you can bring in your own. Entrance fee on the night (Thursday Thunder) we were there was only $4.00 for adults and children up to 12 years was free. The schedule for that night was 7 races in various categories. Some were just for the men and some were just for the women and one mixed. They had full size stock cars, trucks, and mini cars. The races were either 15 or 25 laps on a short (1/3 mile) track. The races were exciting with an occasional mishap such crashes, fires, etc. No one was hurt thankfully as safety was a high priority and the fire/EMT crews were always quick to respond. I’d recommend this to everyone for a really fun night out.
What a classic little 1/3 mile race track. People bring their families and enjoy a fun night of very eclectic people, greasy food, and amazing people-watching. Oh, and there is very competitive local car racing, with many people carrying on a family tradition through generations of racing. Who could resist Thursday Thunder, Day of Destruction, Car Wars, and NASCAR nights? It's a blast to climb the old wooden stands & settle in for a night of sights & noises on a beautiful Maine evening. You can even bring your camper, which many families do each weekend.
This place has been around for over 50 years. I can remember Saturday nights in the summer, driving in from Sebago Lake. What a treat for the whole family. Something different to do than the Old Orchard beach pier.
Back in the day, I went to a few races at the speedway (in other states including Daytona) along with watching a show of Monster trucks. It has been eons since I have been to a race and my ears are more tender now so I would suggest to anyone who has sensitive ears to bring earphones or earplugs. Do not let the noise keep you from coming here! When I heard they had "beetle bug" races, that is what got me interested in wanting to visit this place. Although there was only one beetle bug in that particular race, it was still fun to watch. They have a wide variety of cars (in each heat/race) rather than the same NASCAR type cars going around and around a speedway. This sounded fun and it was AMAZINGLY FUN!!! I didn't anticipate how much I would enjoy this because it's not really my thing but they had wrecks in almost every heat of the night (2 hours long). I always pray that if there are wrecks, I want everyone to be fine. Thankfully everyone was this night and it was the most wrecks in the season as well as for the past years. The fans were tame and I didn't see any smoking (I am not a smoker). The bathrooms were well kept and there are many stalls for women (Hallelujah and thank you for providing enough!!). As for the food, I am not sure because I didn't purchase any but it looked good for racetrack food. They have a brief intermission where a few fans can win $300 by tossing a hoola hoop on a moving jeep with a bunny mascot. This was great family entertainment and I encourage you to visit their website. They are going to be having different types of races a few nights of the week. The management as well as the owner as far as I can tell genuinely wants everyone to have a great time that attends. Where can you go for $4 a person (adults) and get this much fun entertainment? We went Thursday night and prices are different on other days of the week as well as special events. Let your hair down and try something new, something you never thought you would go to!! You just might be pleasantly surprised like I was! website http://www.beechridge.com/
A great evenings entertainment if you like the smell and noise of the race track. Parking is right outside the track and food and drink is available inside. Great family entertainment with RV/camper parking available.
Excellent short racing. Every Saturday evening and every Thursday evening. ( Thursday night thunder)
10 bucks for a full evening of great entertainment, there is no better deal anywhere. I was in South Portland for a good size job this past weekend and brought a crew of 8 guys. We stayed in Scarborough at The Extended Stay Hotel. We had all gotten up at 3:00 A.M. and worked physically hard all day. Our mission was to get dinner somewhere and call it a night because we had to be on the job site for 4:00 A.M. Sunday morning. We were standing in the parking lot of the hotel trying to decide where to get some grub when one of my workers said "Man, whatever is making that noise sounds like a fun car to drive." I listened and said "That has to be a race car!" So I looked on my iphone real quick for local race tracks and sure enough, Beach Ridge Speedway popped right up. We had 15 minutes to get to the track for the first qualifying heat. We literally jumped in one of our rigs and we were at the track in less than 5 minutes. 4 out of the 8 of us decided to go and the only person to have ever been to a local short track was me. The other 3 guys couldn't believe how much they enjoyed themselves and completely caught the racing bug in minutes flat. The place was very clean, it was only 10 dollars and the racing was really good. I was very impressed with the announcer, he has a great gift of gab and was entirely upbeat the entire evening. Not only did he sound professional, but he SOUNDED professional. The P.A. was the perfect setup for the size of the place and you could clearly hear every word he said all night, which is rare when it comes to a local track and their sound system. The track mascot added to the experience as did the bus ride they give to the kids who are in attendance. I have never seen a track go the extra mile and do something so great for the kids. What an excellent way to peak children's interest. My kids are grown adults, but they absolutely would have gone bananas had they been treated like that at the tracks I brought them to when they were growing up.I wish I lived closer because if I did, I would make it a point to go back to Beach Ridge Speedway on a regular basis. Thanks for a great night out, my workers had a blast and so did I. I have another job scheduled in the area in September and I will surely be bringing my crew with me to Beach Ridge when we are up there.
Went to Beech Ridge for the PASS tour event on July 6th. Arrived shortly after the 6:00 start time so we missed the first PASS heat race - it's great to go to a track that pays attention to the advertised start time. The races were run without delay, intermission was only 10 minutes. The whole program was completed by 9:00 which I thought was great. I would much rather see a well run 3 hour show rather than a 5-6 hour marathon. $20 price was great. Grounds were well kept - track operators obviously have pride in their operation. I have been to over 100 tracks - this is one of the best!
I love NASCAR and I had friends that race at the track and love going there to watch them. I usually go every year and watch. I love the place and would love to go every weekend!
I was surprised. I was not a person who would normally like this sort of thing, but the energy and excitement of the race was really fun.
YUP!!! I got talked into being a redneck watching, mosquito swatting, loud talking, gas smelling and motor loving Speedway lover! Never thought in a million years I'd actually love it! Total blast last Saturday night! All for $20.00 bucks! Two races of over 150 laps of roaring cars and it was a great night. Free parking, too! Bring something soft to sit on and you'll be happy you did! I'm definitely going to be back this Summer!!! I can't wait!
Not a big racing fan but this seemed more like a bunch of guys focusing more on reliving the Days of Thunder scenes and less on actually racing.
just love Beechridge, I am a fan of local race tracks but Beechridge is great fun and very reasonable price and very clean ! Staff pay a lot of attention to detail
The Bunny Bus was great, it was fillied with children waiting to take laps around the track in a kid friendly painted up Bunny Bus. The Mascot was great, he walked around the front stretch grandstands. It makes taking kids to the races fun.
