We used a Groupon to try kayaking in the Sebago region, and were very pleased by the experience. As novice kayakers, Bill suggested Dundee Pond, and it was the perfect place for us. There's was a $15 fee to deliver (and pick up) 2 kayaks - which is not included with the Groupon - but definitely well worth it. We followed Bill from his office to the launch site - and left our car in a small lot by the road. The launch is just below a dam on the Presumpscot River - where it feeds into Dundee Pond - and we found the current easy to navigate and the water very calm. We set out at 9:30 AM and were picked up at 12:30 PM - and found that 3 hours was a good amount of time to explore the (shaded) shoreline and swim at Dundee Park - where admission is waived after Labor Day. It was a lovely experience and we look forward to doing it again.
We went kayaking right here in our own back yard. I had no idea there were so many great places to launch a kayak, and Sebago Trails will deliver it right to the launch site! The people there are so helpful and friendly and they know a lot about the waterways in the area. When we finished, Bill was waiting at the launch site to pick up the kayaks. We chose to launch at the very picturesque Babbs Bridge, a wooden covered bridge on the Presumpscot River. After a beautiful Paddle up stream we let the current carry us back down past the bridge and into the still waters of the Gambo Dam "impoundment" (new word for me regarding the still waters backed up behind a dam - usually referred to a pond) Highlight of the day was the sighting of an American bald eagle! Our rental package included the kayaks, PFD's, paddles and we paid an extra $15 to have them deliver and pick up. When we arrived at the paddle shop in N. Windham, Sebago Trails had our kayaks all loaded up and ready to go. All we had to do is pick out our life jackets, sign the rental form and pay. Then away we went, to the launch on back roads to avoid the traffic and construction on the main road. we were paddling within 20 minutes! Such a great time, and such great service!
My Mom and I went kayaking two weeks ago with Sebago Trails and it was simply the best! Everything from start to finish was flawless. We planned to go once and ended up going the next day as well because we were so impressed by the serene beauty of Maine. Sebago Trails is easy to find off of Route 302, one of the main roads going through Windham, so they are central to several pristine kayaking areas. They are a family owned and operated business; they all grew up kayaking in Maine. We were greeted by their friendly staff- Katelyn and Brandon upon arrival. Here are some reasons why you should kayak with Sebago Trails:1.) Experience - Katelyn, Brandon and their team are extremely knowledgeable about Maine - they're all from Maine. They know the most scenic and least crowded sites and are sure to give you excellent recommendations. When we asked for somewhere to kayak that had hiking nearby, Katelyn instantly knew the perfect place to take us - and it was wonderful! (They even know the locations of the nearby restrooms and places for lunch.)Additionally, Katelyn teaches kayaking (and stand up paddle boarding) at the local community college so you know you are in good hands!2). Service - Brandon is so personable and knowledgeable! He took us to the nearby kayaking area and helped us get comfortable in our life vests and launch our kayaks. He was very polite and reassuring as he helped us launch off of the side of the river. We were at ease under his instruction and he even offered to get a group picture of us!3.) Locations: Maine is beautiful and scenic. Take a look at the pictures attached to see what I mean. All of this is just about 30 minutes north of Portland!4.) Value: Sebago Trails is competitively priced and they set themselves apart with their service and experience! They have a liberal cancellation policy; they understand that the weather changes! They are interested in having repeat customers. Tip: Even in cloudy/ lightly raining weather we were out on the water kayaking having a great time, so be sure to check the projected forecast so you don't miss out on a nice day! We've kayaked in Maui, Kauai, Alaska and Colorado and nothing compares to Sebago Trails in Maine! This is by far the best time we've had and I still can't stop talking about what an incredible experience we had over Memorial Day weekend. Next time you're thinking about kayaking in Maine, look no further than Sebago Trails Paddling Company for an unforgettable experience!
