The setting is lovely as it is always wonderful to be by the water. The wharf area does have a table and chairs, so you can sit for a bit and look at the water. The on-site gallery often features two or three artists, all of whom are talented. But the prices for the artwork is much, much more than the average person's budget. The larger paintings on sale today cost around $7,000. The pottery was almost $1,000. Though, many of the works were already sold, so I guess people have money to spend. The parking, though, is free!
It's hard to believe this is the first TA review of the Hancock Wharf and Warehouse. And actually I am writing this review about the art gallery which is at the same site. The Hancock Wharf is part of the Museums of Old York and should be viewed in that context - it's certainly not the highlight of the Museum House Collection but it has a gorgeous location on the York River and is quite near the Perkins House. But the Marshall Gallery is open to the public, has frequent shows, and is probably the best art gallery in the area. Shows rotate fairly frequently so it's worth stopping by to see what's there. Don't forget to visit the ground floor (usually photography) and it's a great place to bring a picnic lunch.
